IU vs TWS - the Yearly #1 at Melon will decide the fate of Hybe acts

  • The tale of Robin Hood was famous from the middle ages.

Long story short, the King of England, Richard the Lionheart, was in the Crusade and the land was left to his brother John. John had his minion the Sheriff of Nottingham run the area where Robin Hood lived, and Robin fights the Sheriff and restores the kingdom back to Richard the Lionheart when he returns.

However, Richard the Lionheart had no heirs, so the throne passed to John, who was Richard's only surviving brother (there were two more illegitimate brothers who were packed into monasteries but they don't count), and therefore the heir. John lost a lot of land under his control so he earned the nickname of John Lackland(which, in modern English means "John without land"), but nevertheless all subsequent English monarchs supposedly comes from his line.

Virtually all versions of the Robin Hood tales stop before John ascends to the throne, but if Robin Hood actually existed (there are several candidates for his real personage), John and the Sheriff of Nottingham would have hunted Robin down.

The Yearly #1 for Melon has a lot of stakes bet on it.

There are now only 2 candidates remaining, IU's Love Wins All vs TWS' Plot Twist.

BTS has a stake on IU's song as Taehyung appeared on IU's video.

If Taehyung was given even a line, there would be no battle, but for whatever reason she refused to give him a line, a decision she will regret very hard since she probably did not even consider the existence of TWS when she recorded that song.

If TWS beats IU on Melon Yearly #1, it unequivocally becomes the primary boy act of the 4.5th generation, and achieving the Melon Yearly #1, an achievement even BTS did not accomplish, will make it the heir of the Hybe Empire, despite of it being from Pledis.

Big Hit tried to debut a group in late 2022, but for whatever reason the project was cancelled. It apparently took auditions to start a new act, but given that 2025 and early 2026 will have it fully occupied for BTS' return, it is unlikely that any new act will see the light of day before the second half of 2026. (One of the would be debutees, Jihoon, was transferred to Pledis and became one of TWS, giving more legitimacy to TWS becoming the Heir of BTS' legacy.)

If IU beats TWS at the Yearly #1, the status quo does remain and BTS, Le Sserafim and New Jeans get a respite, gaining enough time for the new Big Hit boy group to launch and potentially inherit BTS' legacy.

TWS victory will make Pledis the legitimate line of Hybe, strengthening Seventeen's position very enormously, and since its head, Han Sungsoo, did run his company before that will strengthen his position in Hybe decisively, weakening Sourse (Le Sserafim) and Min Heejin's Ador (New Jeans).

Imagine the sight where the returning BTS members are met with disdain by the TWS members, who will now act is if they own Hybe.

No disciplining by BTS members will work, since the Pledis label did produce a successor while the Big Hit label did not.

IU's defeat under the hands of TWS will mean that the 2nd, and by corollary the 3rd, generation will finally exit the stage and the 4th and 4.5th gen will run it.

A tale of dynasties is not complete with dynastic struggles. If TWS beats IU in the Yearly Melon Chart in the end, it does become the heir of Hybe, and it will call the shots about how Hybe will be run in the future.
