true
I (tbh) have 13 kpop albums and to complete all PCs of one group there is many albums to buy (of which i don't have the money to do so), so yeah it depends on how many versions of an album and on the version, a person can end up buying many albums just to get THAT one version of a photocard or to complete the set

Why not get rid of this ( or even just the packaging)?
Because theres way, way too much money and profit in this

I feel like in this day and age when we're becoming a cashless society, this should follow too.

As a collector, I honestly feel like Weverse/Tag/SMart albums are the best ecological answer and they aren't half bad once you get over the loss of photobooks. A set of photocards, instead of a near archaic CD, a digital album, no photobooks/stickers/postcards. YG's being the best so far
The only real drawback is basically every company has their own version, rendering the whole thing kind of pointless.
I have to download a different app to look at NewJeans albums and then another for Jisoos

I agree 100%
and the different apps part is really a turn off
But again, having those environmental-friendly versions defeat their purpose if the photocards are NOT SAME as those in other photobook versions. Companies need to stop greenwashing or greenwishing. If they want to do it sustainably, please just make the QR versions an exact alternative to the regular versions and NOT ADDITIONAL version

And multiple versions of the eco friendly ones too
And then ofc the obvious problem of them being cheaper therefore bulkbuying is gonna go through the roof even if the PC market dies
We can't have nice stuff ever

The packaging is made of paper. It's usually just the CD and protective outer film that are plastic. I suppose one thing that could help remedy the issue would giving an option to get a digital download code instead of a CD, though I'm not sure how that'd work for the charts
Ironically, cashless societies currently produce a lot more plastic waste than cash societies since they tend to be card-based

But we use our mobile phones to pay already( at least where I live heaps do).
Yup, digital download is 👍 along with digital photos.
The K- music industry should start shifting from physical album sales to digital dl. It's gonna be a mammoth endeavour that'll take heaps of willpower from the industry.

That's exactly what a Weverse ver. album intended for.
Ps: the "cards" produced now are mostly biodegradable. Plastic is still the most durable material to use for physical cards, but virtual cards are increasingly available, especially with the rising of Apple Pay, Android Pay etc
