I feel at once connected to my rural more conservative American upbringing, one of farmers and ranchers, oil field workers, and small town values by way of the hardworking Volga German influence in my home state, set in the foundation of the rural Western United States Frontier and Western myth of rugged individualism and perseverance and the honorable hero code.

At at the same time with a yearning and admiration for aspects both aesthetic and cultural of that from much of traditional East Asian culture, the aesthetic and architectural aspects of serenity and beauty, importance of modesty and decorum, and particularly aspects and philosophical underpinnings of Confucianism.
