Why do people think it's funny to drag idols english skills?

  • An example of this is Jisoo from blackpink, why do you close minded people not understand that she is born and raised in Korea? She can't master english like you think she should, and she can understand a lot she just has a accent which is normal. That goes for every idol, it's not funny to say someone cant speak English or say they sound weird.

I really worry about American people sometimes, that's like me saying you should speak Fluent Korean because you listen to kpop, I dont understand why we make jokes about their pronunciation like it's funny when it's not.

Idols don't live in America, they dont have to study english for hours to be fluent. This ties in with fans commenting "speak english I cant understand" on Vlives. This is kpop, they sing and talk in korean. You learn Korean your self and stop flooding the comments with all that nonsense. It's so ignorant to me.

  • People on this forum do it too. We have AKP users themselves making fun of BTS’ accents in Dynamite.

Yet the lot of us probably bastardize the Korean language on a daily basis everytime we try to sing along to our faves’ songs.

  • Jisoo's English pronunciation is fine in blackpinks english songs, Chung ha's was not.

plently of peeople said it was fine?

call out your blink, YT comments, reactions, twt all have plenty of comments saying they understand chungha

replace jisoo with chungha, and english with spanish and I dont see your point here bud

But they didnt understand her so it was not pronounced right. If other people understand Chung ha then good for them. I'm not a Spanish speaker so I can't say anything.

well im here telling you jisoo english pronunciations is bad, what ur fucking point? 1 person cant understand now that gives people the right to shit on chungha but not jisoo????????

and like how the fuck do you know if shes not good if you cant speak it??

  • Context needs to be considered too. Sure some people can be asses but sometimes making fun isn't too be mean, it can be for endearment

I don't know about Jisoo and maybe she gets the rough end of the stick but in SNSD for example members like Hyoyeon and Yuri used to have had their English skills joked a shit ton regularly but it was never out of spite but more for fun and memes. Hyos famous English phrases like Camp fighter, Whoopie Golden retreiver, Obama O etc actually became reasons to like her rather than ways to belittle her

It's really cringe. Every time knetz or someone make fun of Chinese or Japanese idols for how they speak Korean, people get up in arms but will turn around and make fun of idols speaking English.

Like I get it. It's funny sometimes because it leads to gems like Taehyung saying he wanted to be a porn star or when Doyoung said he wanted to work with Ariana Grande because she was hot, but making fun of their accents and pronunciation just grind my gears. They are making the effort to learn to communicate with more of their fans. It's a way to be courteous and appreciate more of their fans who support them.

"I don't understand. Speak English." is the most entitled shit ever. I keep seeing fans say "well they learn it in school/the company teaches them" but that doesn't mean anything. Just because English is taught in school doesn't mean they're confident about speaking it.

  • I really worry about American people sometimes, that's like me saying you should speak Fluent Korean because you listen to kpop, I dont understand why we make jokes about their pronunciation like it's funny when it's not.

the vast majority of americans only speak english and yet they expect others to speak their language fluently and like natives. they can't even be bothered with british accents. the entitlement.

foreign fans are to blame too, they think pointing out their accent is cute, they even spell english words with korean romanization - snakeu, wifeu, fakeu. it's not cute, it's rude.

if i were idols i would never speak english even if i could. i wouldn't want my hard work to be mocked.
