Not really bad or cringe, but incomprehensible for sure. I think it so crazy that nobody outside of the region of America that I live in goes around calling strangers "honey/sugar/sweetie/etc". I can't even comprehend how some people find that condescending if it's not accompanied by "bless your heart".
