Westernization of Kpop is coming quicker than anticipated?

  • Idols are now appearing on western award shows, with Aespa recently on Cannes. I was shocked and amazed by Jennie Calvin Klein photoshoot. She was looking smoking hot, but at the same time I thought to myself the sense of virtue of innocent that Kpop was used to be known for is slowly disappearing. Or is it not and the strong idol culture will still be with us for many years to come?

  • I personally wouldn't like it, just yesterday I was telling my cousin whose favorite singer is Camila Cabello that sadly now that she finally released her third album it meant another few years of waiting for the next. I don't know how much it would benefit idols in the long run but it would be torture to wait so long for my faves (even though I check out a lot more artists, but they're my faves for a reason and I'm always happy for their new songs). I think this is unpopular .

I think it was never that innocent, you were just following groups with innocent images and they are growing out of it

Jennie is grown adult and I think isn't afraid to express herself.

Also with globalisation you will see Kpop groups in Western media more, afterall they are popular and trendy. You can't just ignore them even if they try (case in point The Idol Cannes premier)

KPOP has never been innocent, they've just taken care to not be as openly raunchy as Western acts - cause that's what sells in the West. (Except Hwasa. Seeing the amount of backlash she got, I don't think many will follow for now) However, the Hallyu wave is not a new idea and the desire behind it has always been expansion. In my view, this was always part of the end goal. And "westernization" seems like a trendy catchphrase thrown around to refer to some negative other. Seems xenophobic honestly.
