[BTS CONTENT] There is a chance BTS might be #3 on IFPI

BTS would always get #1 if properly supported. HYBE's lack of support and guidance is the only reason why BTS doesn't get #1. HYBE is working hard to get that number one for any of their other groups, as long as it isn't BTS. I wonder if HYBE had counted the $300 album towards sales where BTS would have landed.

Considering that there was only 1 group release, if they end up in the top 10, that is already incredible. Also, they have already achieved the record that will be difficult to beat: #1 for two consecutive years. I hope they come for this record when they reunite later on.

None of the other HYBE group is close to getting a number 1.

Yeah I don’t think bts get number 1 either

They only had 1 album release this with a super expensive version and 1 regular. they did amazing in 2022 though just not enough to secure number 1 imo

Taylor swift had red tv which came out November 2021 so had all 2022 to build up sales. Then she had midnights in 2022 Whch had 5 cd versions , 5 vinyl versions and a cassette version. I can totally see her being number 1

Behind Taylor Swift and Bad Bunny. Not only did we just get one album, but we got no playlisting/radio/support for YTC and the promotions for it were non-existent.

I'm just being realistic and bracing for the impact of BTS not being #1 being used to drag them as flops yet again. And if my predictions are wrong, that's still fine because at least they will be in the top 10 in their supposed flop era.

I beg to differ. I won’t be surprised if they land at number 1 though.

Last 2 years BTS had only one album out( a Japanese compilation that sold about 1M and a regular version of BE which made a million sales too. Having a hit song is good but ifpi weighs sales more than units, and so with only physicals, BTS can still chart.

BTS sold about 5M albums last year and they sold as many Proof deluxe version to regular version(a reminder that ifpi prioritizes album prices more than just sales and that’s why Japanese albums are weighed more because of how expensive they are)

For TS, apart from the vinyls which were sold for $30, Taylor’s albums were hella cheap going for at least $13. She may make the numbers but BTS albums will be weighed higher than her. Still I won’t be surprised if Taylor tops because she made insane streaming numbers last year. I just don’t think it’s fully certain that she’s snatching the top position.

I don’t expect bad bunny to be ahead of BTS. His physical sales are abysmal even though he does extremely well in SEA units.

So BTS is either at 1st or 2nd position

Taylor is locked at #1 and BTS is definitely at #2 unless BB's streams would be weighed more. But really the 2 and 3 position is interchangeable. Atleast BTS still getting the Top 3. It's still amazing because their last proper album release was in Nov 2020 with BE. And had BTS released an actual album instead of a compilation one with only 3 new songs that had literally 0 promotions, then they'd definitely getting that number one again with no support of Japanese album. Proof only has 2 versions and one of them costs like 60-75 bucks. They also didn't have a big single like Butter to support their streams. Thanks to their strong back catalog their digitals and streams are still plenty.

Bad Bunny is great at streaming, but his fans aren't buyers of physical albums. BTS sold over 6M korean albums last year plus however many Japanese albums, not to mention their fantastic year in streaming as well.
