It's not a gender thing lol it's a social thing a big thing in Alot of Asian societies, reputation saving face etc has a huge profound importance. This would have happened regardless of the gender of the person getting married. If one has family that is close to you that has done something immeasurably wrong you are expected to share part of the responsibility or apologize unless you can prove you have no knowledge of the situation
