What is the real definition of bad publicity is still publicity in kpop?

  • I think Wonyoung is some of the perfect example for this. She's getting a lot of hate but at the same time it makes people keep talking about her. So non kpop fans or her non fans will know her because people keep saying something about her even if it's something negative since Izone. And now she's the It girl of 4th gen. We can see this pattern with Jennie too.

  • I think maybe 4L - Move or Stellar - Marionette as that's how I learned those groups existed, because of their controversial dance moves. Although that's more like a song becoming well known on its own rather than actual bad publicity of the group.

I don't know if Jennie for example would really count because people talk about her because she's already popular. So it's popular -> people talk -> more popular rather than starting from a person who was already unpopular. Personally I think when a group has a controversy (e.g. fromis_9) it makes them cooler because it makes it seem like they are popular enough that people know about what they do outside of their music. But then again that's popular -> people notice things and talk -> more popular, so it would be more like "a famous band gets more famous, leading to bad publicity that is ineffectual on their growing career" than "bad publicity -> more fame"
