For me, I can't remember whether I believed he was real or not.
But I know that my parents told my older brother that Santa Claus isn't real.

yes i was a huge advocator in SANTA IS REAL debate on the recess playground in lower elementary school
if any child tried to spew "santa is fake its just our parents" id wipe out cold hard evidence on how he was real and how he did what he did. iaksjfksdf
id tried to stay up and look under my door to see him......... we also followed that "santa tracker" website that made things even more realistic to me as a kid, at an aunts house shed throw a huge christmas party and bring over "santa" and for me i understood the difference between "mall santa" and "real santa" so id literally test this guy and ask him, based on the SANTA TRACKER, what countries he'd visited yet. literally quizzed this poor mfr, but in the end i dubbed that he was indeed, the real santa.i took my santa business very seriously.

I believe back then and wonder how could he enter on our own house
he is some magical being from north pole , male version of a fairy but only come to visit during Xmas Eve
until one day me and my siblings caught my parent put gifts on under christmas Tree and socks
end up in laughter still a happy moment
still as long as possible
I want to keep the old tradition and make Santa a mystery to all kids
a little bit of innocence and mystery make a Christmas more exciting -
