Approved the thread. -
People changing their new fave GG every month.
Beautiful Monster was a decent song, but definitely underperformed. STAYC hasn't completely fallen off. They can still have a hit.
But I think KPOP fans are delusional if they expect most 4th gen GGs to have the same streak of hits and #1 songs GGs in 3rd gen had. Maybe 1 or 2 will, but the majority won't.

I guess kakao privilege that people say aren't doing it thing.

Concept doesn't really appeal to international fans.

Kakao privilege does not guarantee hits just like Big 3 privilege does not. Look at how Itzy, NMIXX, Twice and even Aespa can't get hits every time. Kaka privilege just means u have connections and resources that lesserr labels don't have. It can't force people to listen to your songs.

It's normal. In 99% of all cases, girl groups outside of the BIG 3/4 never really last.
Ive is a special case, where Starship groups have always had good music i.e. Sistar and WJSN, but they also have a star from a Produce group in Wonyoung which they didn't really in Sistar or WJSN, so they are now one of the top groups. Depends if they can keep it up, but the pattern is that generally only Big 3/4 girl groups get attention from the public and international fans.

do they have more connections and resources than smaller labels tho? subsidiaries are independent of kakao, this is not a hybe situation where the main company is involved in their subsidiaries, is more like SM, where the subsidiaries are independent, ATBO or Just B are kakao groups, where are the connections?
big 4 privilege is more than connections, the groups have a fanbase as soon as the news that a new group debuts

You're fooling yourself if you don't think Starship is pulling connections and resources from Kakao. Kakao as a whole is a massive conglomerate that may be bigger than the big 4 combined. Their interest in the music industry is damn large too. They even own Melon and are the top music distributor in Korea by a large margin.

People only care about girl groups from big companies or if they have someone with recognisable faces/names. Look at the 4th groups with the most engagements/discussions: Aespa from SM, Lesserafim from HYBE, Itzy from JYP, Ive who has Wonyoung, etc.
StayC's most recognisable name is Sieun but she's not like an IT girl or anything like that. Her whole thing is that she was a child actress but not like she's a Kim Yoojung or a Kim Sohyun. People definitely overrate her notoriety tbh.

There's a short attention span for gg and neither of the two songs released were that strong. If they had released a fun track like Poppy in Korea, maybe they'd be doing a lot better.
Oh right. They are still relevant by forcing K-pop idols to do the Poppy challenge (a Japanese release)
