Can someone explain the concept of a furrry to me???

They CAN be LGBT+. It's not necessary though. There are many many happily het furries.

Sexual orientation is happily divorced from whether someone likes to play in animal costumes, consume furry art, write furry stories, etc. The two have nothing to do with each other.

they are NOT apart of the lgbtq+ community cause it's not a sexuality. I a lot of furries dress up as animals as a source of comfort. Just like how people turn to kpop and idols as comfort. Others genuinely believe they are animals. I don't know how/why this happens exactly but to each their own. I won't judge we all have our things.

In simple terms, they just love animal characters related stuff. It started with cartoons and comics and expanded to a lifestyle incorporating fursonas and other kin to those who go more deep into the rabbit hole. Like any obsession, there are degrees.

I think furry has a lot of overlapping with other sub-cultures because of its open nature. It's not like they are part of these groups or vice-versa. Lot of LGBT like anime, but it doesn't mean anime fans are part of LGBT. Same deal here. Also, other sub-cultures may overlap like bronies or sonic fandom although they are their own thing despite superficial similarities. Lot of furries are anime fans. Both communities in the USA kinda grew together.

I guess each individual furry will have a degree of how deep they are into it. I know a guy who is a self-identified furry, but he isn't into fursona or other kin stuff, but he is obsessed over certain characters and collect everything around them and spend good money on art commissions as well.
