I hope companies stop using music videos as ads.

  • I feel bad for NCT 127 as the views of their music video (2 baddies) is 87% from ads. Although the release barely made any noise, I feel bad of how humiliating this is for NCT 127. I would understand that ads help in marketing but using ads to boost view numbers is not cutting it. I even saw the ad and I skipped it despite being a casual fan.

What I would like for the company is to invest in proper marketing of the group like the ones you hear in spotify ads. Make a sure clip promoting the song would really caught every one's attention as 15 seconds ad are not skippable. Exposure is a great marketing tool. Or they could use the album trailers as ads before the release because it would caught people's attention more than a music vide ad.

I think Kpop has to evolve their marketing gimmicks as it has become stale. An ad should catch attention and if people skip it, they are not doing a good job. They are only inflating their numbers which doesn't really help the growth of the artist. As some people may use youtube passively and a music video ad would just feel like an autoplay.

  • Why do you need to feel bad because their views are ads?

Do ad views take away actual views of the MV?

Do ad views take away the joy of fans watching the MV?

Do ad views make the quality of their music or videos worse?

You feeling that it is "humiliating" or "shameful" for a group to use ads, that is on you.

There is literally no reason (unless you are delusional and don't want promotion for your faves) to think that ads are bad. They are for promotion. You feeling that it is bad or that it doesn't reflect a group's popularity or that it demeans a group's status, that is your own insecurity speaking (whether or not you are a fan or not)

How I wish my faves can have tons and tons of ad views so that they can have actual promotion and have actual money and budget pumped into them.
