II remember years ago when Korea was first starting to catch wind of BTS' popularity in the US. I was watching Immortal Songs because a Kpop band I liked was attending the show. The band was announced as GLOBALLY POPULAR and their achievement was only 14 number 1s on iTunes. I cringed. But it didn't take long for me to notice how every single K-pop group/band was being called GLOBAL when they were not making noise outside Korea at all. The mediaplay was intense. That's when I realised the Kpop industry was eager to ride the Kpop wave on BTS backs as opposed to giving them credit for making it a reality and K-pop fandoms act the same way.
But had BTS been from SM, Lee Sooman would have everybody in the Kpop industry parroting the fact that him and his group opened the doors for Kpop in the West and I bet you more kpop fandoms would support.
It was proof that the BIG 3 still has a tight grip on the Kpop industry.
Today BTS influence is much greater but back then you could tell how the media did not support them.
