Somi fans are delusional

    to preface,i like somi and somi is a seriously sucessful woman.


    But she's barely relevant outside her very strong fanbase. yes, she's bagging like a 100 cfs or something and yes shes really pretty but I hear about her once in a blue moon and its just from some somi fan talking about her cfs or someone reminicising the past. the last time she was somewhat popular was during Dumb Dumb and I even kept up with her during XOXO promotions (i still stream Anymore to this day) but since then, I haven't seen a single word spoken about her outside of her own fandom and its weird how Somi fans have convinced themselves she's some popular, trendy idol

    okay cause same. I legit thought that she was suddenly trending hugely in Korea right now for something and new just hadn't reached me yet. Come to find out after reading through that thread that they just in there talking just to talk.

    She used to be famous when she was under jype, she was bagging many cfs I remember it but now? I'm not sure.

    Sejeong is a lot more successful now.

    It's literally because Somi hasn't had a comeback since Dumb Dumb and XOXO back in last year. She's still having attending fashion activities and bagging CFs. You can't lie about popularity lol, if she's getting CFs, she's getting them. Brands trust her popularity. And her music don't lie, she's getting millions of views for her music videos and everything she does.

    Girls have more popularity than some of your favs even if you deny it. The girls have cfs and brand endorsements and even if this is her label connections, still put her above other of her pairs. Look at giselle, girlie is in aespa and sells more than Somi, but SOMI is 10x times bigger

    No one said they're on the same level. I just said they have similarities in that they have long hiatuses and it's only their fanbase talking about them during those long breaks. There's also similarities in that during those long breaks, they are still "active" with fashion events and sponsorships, and still getting plenty of CFs.


    I don't know why you're acting like she's not trendy or popular outside of her fanbase or whatever. Her MV views are at like more than 100 mil for Dumb Dumb, and XOXO is more than 90 mil. Some groups struggle to get 20 mil, let alone her doing that as a solo artist. You don't get those numbers with just a core fanbase, she's definitely trendy with casual fans as well.

    Perhaps you are confused, because you have it backward. Somi is a general public artist with a relatively weak fandom/standom. Probably because she releases so little content (about half the content Blackpink makes) it's almost impossible to stan her.


    Her GP numbers are close to the best out of all the soloists except IU, including streams, MV likes and brand deals. Her fandom/standom numbers are relatively weak, including physical sales and music show votes.


    You are not hearing that much about her right now because she has not released any content besides social media posts and ads since last December... because Teddy is her producer. That's his MO, and he's understandably focused on BP right now.

    Don’t know about international but in Korea she’s not considered as a female soloist with big gp pull like iu, taeyeon, heize, chungha, sunmi etc.

    But her popularity and trendiness make her bagging a lot of CF. She is earning even not releasing music because she is more like celebrity (similar to BP) than your typical 3-comeback/year kpop idol

    Sure, Somi was never an "it" girl by that definition. One of the reasons Somi gets so many brand deals is that she has a positive and approachable vibe that the public and advertisers love. It's also why she has so many friends/contacts in the industry.


    That kind of positive/friendly vibe has no expiry date, unlike the "it" girl vibe you describe. Just see Heechul as an example.

    Somi had a good 2021, but she is nowhere in a place to be mentioned along with IU/Taeyeon.


    As to others like Sunmi, Chungha, Heize etc., - well they have a far thicker a discography, so obviously will have some lows, just because Somi's high in 2021 coincided with Chungha's lows, still does not put Somi in the same league.


    Somi's comparison should be with someone like Bibi, and in music Bibi has made more waves than Somi.


    But yes, Somi has remained an advertising favorite steadily since her Sixteen/PD101 days, but then so is Sejeong.


    Somi has age on her side, if she continues like she did in 2021, then definitely with her existing popularity, she can do very well.

    She ought to do more stuff in the West, be a true crossover artist, like AleXa is doing.
