  • It was an interesting thread, paradis. Thank you.

From what I can see in the interview, It was in Brazil. Since I'm in my 20s I experienced both phenomenons in the fullest here.

I can say RBD and BTS popularity were similar in terms of fandom support in their peak. RBD/Rebelde was more mainstream in It's peak back in the 00s, because they had a popular telenovela airing everyday on TV and telenovelas are too intrisic in our culture, like Doramas for Korea.

So everyone in my age back when RBD was popular (between my 8 and 12 years) liked them. And kids' parents and other regular adults knew them because they were always on TV. Nowdays, BTS is indeed more mainstream.

The problem is that your thread made me reflect how the group and its members didn't really built up a legacy to be remembered by people other than the ones that were their fans in the past here, so the ones who will mostly remember them are the ones who are around my age. And their brand became so weak that kids nowdays don't really know who they are. They have other interests. Most of the members individual careers didn't really took off, other than Maite's and maybe Poncho's as and actress and actor.

  • Thank you for the context Mina

  • They are the face of Korea. Literally the first thing that comes to people's mind when they hear the word 'South Korea'....

    ah right!!
just saw this clips yesterday, when Kim Jongkook said he is a singer and from South Korea, the guy immediately ask "do you know BTS?"
    ^^^^^^

BTS indeed the face of Korea

  • and when BTS comes to Mexico >>>>

I loved RBD back when I was a toddler (or even a bit younger). Was a huge fan of the telenovela and the band itself. Even had a Barbie doll of one of the characters but I accidentally dropped its boot to the street when I was playing and a car ran over it and couldn't fix it again. ;(
