Top 5 groups of 3rd gen overall

  • They sure are all popular groups with garbage music so maybe re-think your list eh?

  • Wait if 3rd gen started later for ggs, wouldn't it be the same for 4th gen? like Gidle is clearly more similar to 3rd gen ggs while SKZ does feel more of an EXO type of leading group of early 4th gen. It would make much more sense for the 4th gen to start in 2020 for ggs since that is when the shift in looks and music happened

  • y'all sneaking every bg imaginable in those lists when red velvet is right there :pepe-peek:

    the correct answer:

    1. bts

    2. bp

    3. twice

    4. red velvet

    4. exo

exo was HUGE but their last truly successful group comeback was obsession in 2019 while red velvet still releases steady hits up to this date, their charting is more than good and their album sales keep improving each cb. can't say the same for many of those bgs y'all trying to sneak into the chart

  • was it succesful though? sales aside, Obsession is nowhere near Dalla Dalla, KTL, BWL, Fancy, Psycho, Feel Special. Probably even Zimzalabim did better

  • I'm thinking your original question - you said success and influence. I can think of groups that are successful like Seventeen but haven't really influenced kpop, whether it's imitators or reshaping choices companies make. These groups might not have been the first, but they are definitely acknowledged by their peers, younger groups and other companies as the biggest and/or best to do it.

    1. BTS (international success and dominance)

    2. BP (girl crush on an international scale, luxury image vs girl next door cutesy)

    3. EXO (a trendsetter in globalizing kpop, major achievements in the industry)

    4. Twice (major achievements in the industry, obviously sweethearts in Korea, but also an interesting contrast to BP that you can still be successful globally with a more traditional gg kpop sound and vibe)

    5 (tie)

NCT (style and sound - every group is described as "NCT music" and they continue to be trendsetters in every area, from music to production to dance to the limitless unit concept. You can really see their dance influence in 4th gen bg)

SKZ (also style and sound, but really proving the idea that kpop success can be entirely international, rather than Korea-driven)

  • Eh? More idols are now allowed & encouraged to participate in songs making. We know Seventeen labeled as self-producing idols since debut. Isn't it could be considered "reshaping choice company made"?

They're known for their synchronization (was Infinite in 2nd gen). They influenced newer gen in dance department too. Maybe not exactly the style, rather than overall performance.

(weekly) YouTube content/variety show produced by their own team. Older groups usually team up with variety show producers like Show-time & The Soop. Now we have shows like Going Seventeen, To Do, En-o'clock, Treasure Map. GoSe itself has its own fandom, and other idols watch GoSe, despite the fact it's not advertised on TV, you have search it by yourself on YouTube. So yeah, their show is acknowledged by their peers. And recently Na PD said he watch some eps of GoSe.

  • I agree. There are reasons why Seventeen is popular and often being put together with top groups since their rookie days eventhough they're from mid-size agency. They do have influence & success. Or Red Velvet, if not NCT.
