What 4th gen groups will have the same longevity as 3rd gen?

  • Exo debuted 2012

    BTS debuted 2013

    Red Velvet debuted 2014

    Twice and Seventeen debuted 2015

    Blackpink and NCT debuted 2016

All these groups are doing just as well or better than the trendy, new groups. Usually at their group ages with kpop, they would either be disbanded (or lost most members) or obviously replaced by the new generation. Not only are these groups still popular, but some of them still haven't peaked. Only one group has lost members so far too. Is this a 3rd gen fluke or will 4th gen have the same longevity as popular 3rd gen groups? Who do you think these groups will be?

Honorable mentions for other active 3rd gen: Oh My Girl, BTOB, Got7, Mamamoo, Viviz (Gfriend), Astro, Winner, iKon, WJSN :cheer-bunny:

  • Enhypen will last longer than most of them. Many of these groups haven't reached the end of their contract yet so I don't get your point. And most are not relevant anymore.

Which of these groups are irrelevant? Exo is still at the top of basically all recent boy group rankings despite less group activity, BTS is BTS, Red Velvet just had a hit with Feel My Rhythm, Twice's western popularity has grown a lot (The Feels gained quite a bit of attention + touring numbers), Blackpink is Blackpink, and NCT and Seventeen outsell and outchart all 4th gen boy groups so far

All of them except BTS and BP. They aren't making any noise globally.

By globally, you mean only western countries? Many of the groups I've listed are popular throughout Asia. And by the standard you're to trying to set then all of 4th gen is irrelevant too. No one in kpop but BTS and BP make any noise in the west outside of kpop bubbles. Also looking at The Feels and their touring numbers, Twice would be 3rd place in the west so at the very least they would be more relevant than any 4th gen group if we follow this measurement.

Not only western countries but the world in general. Twice was popular mainly in Korea and Japan but they fell off. Other groups' Spotify performance is tragic and doesn't come close to Enhypen and Stray Kids.

  • The Third Age of Kpop is over, friend. All those acts have either peaked, have never made it to the big leagues at all, or are on life support.

In contrast, Aespa stole everyone's lunch last year with the #1 song of 2021. Ive has come out with two top 3 hits that enjoy remarkable longevity. Stayc has two top 10 hits. Itzy still growing, Gidle might end up with the #1 song of 2022, and a whole host of GGs have enough firepower to top charts and rack up big fanbase numbers (Kepler, NMIXX, LSRFM).
