Big in asia where spotify isn’t popular

honestly the sales are embarrasing & these other numbers show this too
no matter what kpop fans want to convince people, having 1M/2M+ album sales because of 5+ versions, but doing horrible on every other parameter is embarassing. it's clear how fraudelent and untrustworthy these sales are since they can't be backed up by any other number. sales - 2M, but yt - bad, spotify - bad, melon - bad...?
btw this isn't only at 17, this is meant for every group that fits this description.

they have dedicated fandom in East asia but not a lot of gp interest

Youtube views and other platforms that allow mass streaming are such a weird parameter to use. How is mass streaming any more reliable or real than mass buying? Because that's what basically all kpop fanbases do. I think it's weird how groups like Seventeen and NCT constantly get attacked for this when the majority of popularity in kpop is "fake it til you make it" done by fans. Even once a group "makes it," the majority of the numbers is mass streaming and buying. Besides, both groups have successful touring numbers and clearly have a lot of fans to match these sales.

I would have bought it but I'm so over paying twice the price of an album in shipping, and then maybe getting a customs demand too. If these companies and groups are so global I should be able to buy the album on Amazon for the cover price. As it is I'll pick them up cheap on ebay without photocard.
Also I know some Carats who will no longer pre-order because of the notoriously bad HYBE quality.

their new music video has 30 million views on day 2, not shabby.

I heard they're quite popular in japan hut japan streams contribute a lot to the global Spotify ranks. So it makes me wonder if they're really that big or its just bulk buying..

Idk why ppl keep pushing the narrative svt is bad on Spotify, they do just decently on Spotify. They literally had 3rd biggest album debut in kpop on Spotify with 4.3M streams for FTS. Also, not to mention their main markets aren’t also aren’t that big on Spotify either (just to put in perspective China doesn’t even have Spotify). They literally are in the top 10 most streamed Kpop groups with 2.1B streams.
Even on Melon they do 10x better than majority of the BGs. Even their eng single, not targeted for sokor lasted for nearly a month on there + it has returned back on charts again. Not to mention that Hot is charting pretty well on melon currently + their 3B streams on melon, they are literally the 3rd most streamed bg of all time. I would like to mention that even their ost lasted 3 months on chart. Ppl will like to look over everything and anything to make it fit their flop narrative.
Even in Japan, they are topping the charts there currently, ex. Line music and rechokoku charts.
If anyone bothered to look, they would see svt does just fine, in fact better than most groups.

never said svt was doing worse than most other kpop bgs.. wouldn't even be surprised if they are one of the better performing, but 2M sales with 4.3M spotify streams for a whole album & just crossing 14m for youtube first day... those are big discrepancies (even when you consider things like china not having spotify, because they are huge in japan & japan often contribute a lot to spotify streams).
however, i don't think it's fair to call out only seventeen, when again, they are probably not even doing that bad compared to the other top kpop bgs.

2.1B in 7 years is bad. Enhypen will have 1B soon in 1.5 years. Also you said Spotify isn't big in Asia but it's very popular in SEA, isn't a big part of their fans from there?
