  • no, because kpop isn't about music/spotify for most

it's fashion, performance, non music content,... a lot of people don't even listen to their faves music that much.

it's more the whole idol concept they like to invest their time in.

(also, youtube has grown in kpop industry since you also have the visual aspect there)

  • Kpop is the greatest example of manufactured I've ever seen. Nothing about the genre is authentic, except for very rare cases. So, no surprise.

  • kpop is growing out of Korea Step by step so what exactly it's the surprise about it? it's pretty amazing that have many groups on the list and soon will have more

  • I find it shocking no one understands that this is the fault of the companies who do not know how to market music itself to the greater industry. they are isolated and stuck in an echo chamber and it’s kind of sad. and the entire model needs to be changed to keep up with contemporary global methods.

  • The next time people brag about their faves being global. I will laugh again.

  • Most streamed ever. K-Pop is still pretty new as a phenomenon. It only began to peak around 2018. Most of the artists in that pic have been super popular for a decade or longer. You're setting K-Pop up to fail really.

  • Damn Blackpink is high for a group with only 23 songs to their name.

  • This pretty much shows there are at best 3 relevant groups in k-pop

And yet BTS is 10th. Olivia Rodrigo debuted last year and she is in 100th place. Billie Eilish debuted in 2019 and she's 13th. Kpop fails because it's kpop.

Exactly. Yet some fans are excusing the number of years or the number of songs. But Olivia Rodrigo only became known/debuted last year with small amount of songs 😅 I guess because more groups are more geared towards vod contents, and they don't have enough market in more relevant countries for music (i mean in the top 10 biggest music market). Only Indians, and kids who are watching/listening to Cocomelon are strictly using YT.

  • Any person who didn't know this lives in kpop bubbles. I don't really care tbh. But at least, now, people aren't weird out when I said I listen to kpop and I'm glad I don't have explain what is kpop to them.

  • I'm really curious about the amount companies paying for playlisting for some acts like Olivia, Eilish...

And I think big korean companies should follow this path as well

  • Spotify is not as available worldwide to be considered a good metric. Most fans of those groups gotr Spotify recently and some don't even have it available in their countries.
