Any lactose intolerant people here?

  • 1. How did it start? Have you always been intolerant since birth?

    2. What do you do? Do you avoid dairy at all costs, do you take a supplement (enzyme), or do you ignore your own intolerance and drink/eat dairy (and then regret it)?

    3. And to what extent are you intolerant? Is it only pure milk or literally anything that has traces of milk/dairy in it?

For me, as a kid I wasn't lactose intolerant and dairy/milk was a normal part of my diet. When I was in high school I stopped drinking milk for some time, and then when I started again I was suddenly intolerant to it.

Nowadays I don't drink milk (I use lactose free milk whenever I eat cereal or bake). Cheese doesn't make me sick unless it's a lot, so whenever I eat pizza I never choose one that has a lot of cheese. As for baked goods, it's all fine unless they are heavy on milk - last month half a slice of tres leches cake had me in bed with a lot of pain in my stomach. Ice cream is also a no no.

    What about you guys?

  • I am.

I think I was intolerant all my life but it became bigger discomfort as I got older.

I mostly become super bloated and get stomachache.

I mostly use plant based milk and lactose free yogurt.

I barely eat ice cream but when I do I just suck up the consequences lol

I actually have the worst reaction to cheese, I can be in pain whole day for a slice of pizza. So I avoid it.

  • I'm getting more and more intolerant as a I get older. For the most part I can ignore it because I love cheese too much.

  • I am. I had an allergy test done in 2003 and it turned out I am lactose intolerant across the board as I suffer from IBS. I am vegan anyway so don't drink cow's milk but still eat yogurt but like it too much to give it up. I am aware of my symptoms and what triggers it.

  • I only got it in my late twenties :~(. Prior to that, I could savor any type of dairy products and ice cream. But nowadays, there's some limit before IBS is triggered, like up to 5 scoops of Ben & Jerries at one serving. Gone were the ways of guilt-tripping on a tub ;(
