We are in the middle of a pandemic. It’s unfair to critique the American music scene when the pandemic halted a lot of artists eras. On the bright side, a lot of new artists were able to see success this year and the Grammys reflected that. They’re still growing as artists and performers. On the down side, a lot of big artists who are established performers were unable to begin their albums/eras and that’s why it hasn’t been as packed as before.
2021 will likely see the release of a lot of major artists returning to the scene because the pandemic won’t be as a prevalent b/c of the vaccine.
Hmm i really have no idea. Maybe somebody else knows
I think Taeyeon did it with UR and I. But Rosé would certainly be the second and probably one of the few female soloists w/ IU and Taeyeon to do it simultaneously. Amazing regardless.
Spice Girls had the biggest impact and peak but I wouldn’t say they left the biggest legacy as an artist from these. TLC and Destiny’s Child certainly left a far bigger legacy than Spice Girls as musicians and artists.
Out of those 2, DC’s legacy has extended further than TLC cause of Beyoncé and they were bigger globally, so I guess I would say they have the biggest legacy globally, but TLC is still influential.

The best selling by a female singer is like 1M by Joo Hyunmi? I think so. I don’t see anybody breaking that for a while unless BP continues to grow at a fast rate.

Almost all their old title tracks, going back to AIIYL, entered top 200 of Melon on the new chart system. We all know hard to disagree that they’re one of the biggest acts these days. Do you think they’re still growing in Korea? Is their music reaching more and more people?
Because the public likes easy to follow and mimic choreo, girl groups typically lean towards that direction. If you notice, the most popular boy group songs are simplistic in choreo. Most Girl Group hits have viral key points in their dances.
The GP lovedlove scenario but it only spent 20 weeks inside top 10 despite spending over 6 weeks at #1
LSG never hit #1 & will soon surpass LS record
It's the new chart

Not the best example since both of the longest charting songs in the top 10 never hit #1 like LS.
LSG is extremely stable on the real-time chart as well, so it’s definitely more than just the new chart. Not every song after the chart reform is experiencing the same success as LSG.
I love AIIYL, but I just do not understand how someone could say it’s their best title track. it’s the most generic Kpop-ish of their title tracks bar BBY. It would honestly be the last title track by them I show. Though, I can understand that’s why people would love it. Its catchy and pop fun, but I still think they have vastly more superior songs after than before though.
They were unknown rookies? LOA was top 10 YE in 2016, so basically their name recognition was increasing w/ promo and CU was the right song, right viral dance, and right moment with the interest they built during LOA promo.
Actually, Psycho had better first month/first 8 weeks scores than HYLT, Nonstop and other 2020 hit songs except for BTS' Dynamite.
This actually isn’t quite true. As you can see, HYLT performed better in its first 30 days than Psycho, by a slight amount. Though, you also have to take into account that HYLT was unequivocally the biggest song for around 4 weeks and in a less healthy market because of COVID affecting the charts.

To be fair, only a few songs are ahead of D4 in longevity on the charts for girl groups. Even right now, I’m pretty sure it’s charting way higher (around 200 on Melon Daily) than RF and CU which are the only other GG songs with similar. I don’t think there’s an explicit statement on which is better. It’s just a case by case basis.
Right now as we speak it is at 7 which is the bottom part of the chart. It has even dropped out of top 10 at times and yes it just returned back in when ULs have been at an abysmal low. LSG made it to Gallup but despite the recency effect could not beat other bigger hits to reach the top. I have not denied it is a hit, but the way it is being proclaimed a national hit just due to one metric that too on one chart is kind of silly especially taking into account the fact that chart reform makes it easier to stick around.
I don't think anyone here denied it is a hit so lets not self-victimise. What is being discussed here is whether it is a national hit.
LSG only left the top 10 on the weekly chart for one week because of Christmas songs. On top of that, it was in the daily top 10 for the whole week except a day or two. The “recency effect” doesn’t make any sense because it was only surveyed for one period. Gallup does 3. July, September, and October. Once again, you’re trying to misconstrue information to downplay its success. Personally, I never declared it a national hit, but I bet if LSG was a BTS song, you would be calling it a national hit. A song doesn’t have to get a PAK, RAK, or even go #1 to be a national hit. That’s rules that fanbases make up. But LSG is certainly very successful. Every Day, Every Moment by Paul Kim is literally one of the most successful songs and it never reach #1. I can name several hits that didn’t hit #1 and are bigger than these so called “national hits”
You bring up low ULs, but all ULs aren’t that massive. Does that mean none of them are hits in comparison to older hits? You bring up songs staying longer in the top ten. What evidence do you have of this? Songs certainly have remained #1 longer, but what hits have lasted way longer in the top 10 in comparison? You’re using circumstantial evidence to downplay LSG.
There is something known as Gallup survey too, for a national hit many things add up. Post reform it is easier for songs to stick on the chart. Even a Maria would have stayed in longer, just saying

Are we going to use only girl group songs for comparison and as a metric? Then what about Psycho, it should also be a national hit cause it did so well pre-reform. There are so many parameters for a song to be a national hit, everyone sees it differently but if there have been more impactful songs, how is the other song a national hit. Any Song and Eight alone were bigger, forget Dynamite if we take in post reform, and rarely anyone calls them national hits. Lovesick Girls is barely hanging in the bottom of top 10 on Melon. Even VVS' song performed better so will that be a national hit too? Yeah
Most of Maria’s chart run is during the chart reform, so why would it last longer when it already benefited from the new chart system?

Incorrect, it spent 10 weeks in the top 5. It actually spent majority of its time in the top 5, reaching it again after some time.
I don’t care if it’s a national hit, but to ignore that LSG is a massive success simply because it was blocked by a song (a song you all like to call the biggest by a Korean artist I might add) doesn’t negate that it is a massive success and broke/is breaking records. It also did well on Gallup when it was only released a month before the last survey. All those songs were released ahead of it were released pre-September, so that only shows LSG’s strong popularity.
BLACKPINK Group has UMG (Universal Music Group = Interscope Records) working for them in the USA ... So , (G)I-DLE does NOT have that happening for them ,
in terms of USA support.
GIDLE is literally signed by Republic and it’s a label under UMG. They’re just not as successful in the US for the company to want to push them. They’ve released like 5 English versions too so they could gain more popularity.
