The first half of this year been pretty slow for girlgroup hits compared to last year. In the first six months of last year we had Ditto, I AM, Queencard, Spicy, Cupid, etc. Meanwhile this year has only had Magnetic and Supernova. I hope this means that the later half of the year will be more exciting.

EXO was undisputedly #1 at the start of 3rd Gen and then they were over taken no harm no foul. Even when mmm or gfriend were having hits no one considered them the top gg. That always only belonged to twice and then to BP. Even if other GG’s had hits too they were never considered “top” or #1

I actually missed out on all of 3rd gen and good chunk of 4th coz Bigbang & 2NE1 was the only thing I cared about from like 9-13😅 It was lowkey so hard to be invested during that time when BTS,BP,Twice were all the rave especially amongst your friends. That's what happens when you peak too early - Depression

thinking about that, youre kind of right. agreed, BGs tend to be not much competition as in GGs these days..I dont know a lot of boy groups, but I never saw such a huge influx in competition or tension in groups like Exo, TXT, Ateez, Stray Kids, BTS like you mentioned etc. they tend to be more chill
i feel like the girl idols were in competition in looks, fashion, attitude, etc, or at least that is what the media portrayed
I remember 2nd gen that shit was restless. Bigbang & EXO fanwars were crazyyy. And Fandoms didn't homogeneous like it did with 3rd gen

quick rant but I feel like they shouldn’t have mixed korean with japanese. It just makes the song’s meaning harder to convey for all sides. You try to please everyone yet end up satisfying none. From what I’ve seen Japanese receptions are mixed, I wouldn’t be surprised if it doesn’t make a splash on melon either
