I think this fall and beyond could be incredibly impactful for BTS. The are now appointed ambassadors for SK. They will be at the UN as countries are trying to return to normal. They could be standing with fashion elite at the Met Gala. Their Coldplay collaboration is upcoming. They continue to soar to incredible heights
Not to mention a potential album in september

That's like questioning the success of Blinding Lights in the US because it only spent 4 weeks at #1, even though it's on track to break the record for longest charting song ever in the country. Also, if your criteria is weeks spent at #1, Dynamite holds the all-time record in South Korea with 11 weeks spent at #1.

So someone's argument in this thread is that SALES aren't indicative of SALES...
Yeah, a sale is a sale no matter what. If you don't have anyone willing to buy, there's no way to get sales that billboard won't filter out. With streams and radio you can just pay for airplay or playlist streams. With sales you actually need demand, there's no way to get around that.

Regarding Bad Bunny as #1, I explicity clarified "as of today". It doesn't mean any more than that. If chartmasters is to be believed and based on the way they take things into account, Bad Bunny would be #1. TODAY. Not this week, not this month. Only today. It doesn't sound to me like an outlandish claim; it ultimately doesn't mean much if it's only a short lived occurence.
For the rest I agree.
If you are counting YouTube + Spotify, he wouldn't be #1. Saying he is #1 only applies to Spotify.

Isn't Spotify the most popular streaming service though? Everyone looks at their numbers so I guess it is. I'm not desperate to downplay BTS, I only try to keep in check Army's most outlandish claims, like BTS is the greatest thing ever since sliced bread. Truth is BTS still has a long way to go before reaching the legendary status of the Beatles, Michael Jackson, Queen or The Rolling Stones yet some Armys are desperate that everyone bows down in awe in front of BTS's divine nature.
YouTube is technically the biggest streaming service by monthly users, google says they have about 2 billion users each month who listen to music (and BTS is #1 there). Regardless of that fact, saying that an artist is #1 in the world because they are getting the most streams on one platform is much more outlandish than anything else said in this thread. Also, I have literally said that BTS is not the top act of all time so many times in this thread, simply that they are on the right path to get there. The Beatles didn't automatically get 400M album equivalents back in the 60's, it took them decades to reach that number.

Wut? I was literally born there and lived half my life as a SK citizen with a green card here. Maybe i'm not one anymore but i grew up in a Korean household with parents who literally lived through the Korean War, all my relatives still live in Korea, i am 100 percent Korean by blood. I have a far greater understanding of Korean mentality than 99% of the folks on this forum.
So if you have lived in a certain country, you automatically know the opinions that everyone in the country has about a certain artists?

Ok, but when I said to check on the best selling artists you told me no, it favors older artists, let's check who's listened to right now. And now you tell we must go back to the best selling artists list because it favors BTS over Bad Bunny who debuted more recently. So make up your mind. Right now you're just picking and choosing whatever is best for BTS. But when other people do the same for their faves, they get flamed. So hypocrisy? Double standard?
I have no clue what your argument is here, I said that BTS was the #1 act debuting in 2010 or later and I backed it up with their all-time list. Does that change the fact that the list favors older acts? No. Being #66 after only 8 years of activity is impressive, the Beatles are #1 and they have been around for 61 years. The entire top 10 have been around for 40+ years each. The list you are looking at solely measures Spotify streams, just one streaming platform. It seems like you are just desperate to downplay BTS.

In Korea, BTS is the go to group to demonstrate your patriotism and national spirit. Koreans love it when their country receives international praise, they crave it. And BTS's success gives it to them.
So in short, i would say Korea respects them for their success and achievements, as do I, but i dont think their music is liked the most by the GP.
US citizens feel patriotism and national spirit when the listen to the national anthem, where is it on the charts?

But you are telling me they are not well known without giving evidence. That's different from the opinion you asserted.
-
Bad Bunny doesn't have the sales to be #1. He might be outstreaming BTS by a small margin but the sales gap is too big to overcome.
-
Its not bigger then the general public lmfao.
Name recognition is something the greatest have even if BTS has more success.
If BTS sells more then Britney,Beyonce does that mean they are more known? They are not.
Once again, you are giving me no proof here that they aren't well known other than "it's pretty obvious"
-
If their fandom is bigger than the general public globally, why do they even need the general public at that point?
-
-
Its pretty obvious they are not otherwise their songs would perform much better with the general public.
I guess their worldwide fandom must be bigger than the general public then since they were the #1 most streamed act and best selling act globally of 2020
-
For KPOP fans sure but in terms of artists who are known to the general public? No.
The greatest of all time artists are known by the general public.
How would you know whether they are known to the general public? Have you conducted a mass study around the world or something?
-
Also, most of the artists who can pull 30M+ streams every week wouldn't even come close to filling up a stadium. It's very telling of which songs are shoved down consumers throats by labels.

Well stay is being blocked by both g4u and levitating's radio. And yes it's real popularity is not being shown either. But once radio kicks in more stay will overcome both.
It's obvious billboard weights sales way too much. This is not the first or the last time stans have used sales to manipulate charts. Keeps on happening. First thing they should do is make it one copy per person for website sales.
Honestly I still find fans buying music much more organic than streaming playlisting and radio pay for play. Weighing down sales basically discourages active consumption as a whole.
