I can't name the groups but I think SNSD wasn't the first to go this path, but they were certainly the most legendary one to do this at the time. Other groups who have done it before were popular or known but they were not at SNSD level, so they didn't make as many waves with their decision.

Encores are just a plus and something completely optional, if there were no encores in music shows, fans wouldn't care about this. It's just something else to do a pissing contest about for fans.

Philosophical reflections apart, yes my faves slay encores, every time.
