My Favorite Boy Group Song In Kpop Is By SHINEE
I'm mostly a girl group stan. But I do dabble in the occasional boy group discography.
Over the years I've collected favorites. And one such song rises above all others.
SHINEE's The Reason.
A soaring and emotional rock ballad. The Reason hits straight to my heart.
It has a very traditional 2nd gen aesthetic in that it has that very vocal based ballad feel that was much more prominent during 2nd generation. The kind you'd expect to be paired with a kdrama of that time, where there was a heavy synergy between the two pillars of Hallyu.
It also incorporates a musical foundation that harkens back to the very best of the alternative rock guitar ballads that littered my youth.
At once it calls on my both my nostalgia for older kpop and the 2nd generation where I was new to this world. As well as my nostalgia for a time in my childhood when alternative rock love songs were commonplace.
SHINEE gave us a gem. And it is my favorite boy group song in kpop.
