Isn't calling a girl group "male-gazy" as disgusting as slut-shaming them?

  • Ever since the Kim Garam's controversy, I've seen this word being thrown around a lot and honestly, I feel so insulted as a woman who like girl groups. Why everything a girl does or wears has to revolve around men?

  • No. They're not shaming her. They're shaming her agency. Kpop industry isn't the same as real life. If somebody criticized an idol for taking a sexy selfie or something in their off-time yes, it would be slut shaming and wrong. Criticizing an agency for sexualizing their underage idol (the agency controls everything rookies do) is not slut shaming. It's calling out an agency for commercializing a minors body.

I get that if they're concerned about minor idols but Chaewon is a grown woman and they still call her 'male gazy' for wearing a crop top??? So I begin to think it's more about slut-shaming than real concern at this point

  • Yes the same people think that doing aegyo and acting like some ditzy little girl is completely fine

  • There is a difference. You have to keep in mind that these groups don't get a choice in how they present themselves. Everything is literally designed by their agency in order to target a specific audience. Many female idols have already come forward to explain how they were often forced into wearing things they weren't comfortable or forced into performing songs that made them feel ashamed. In the case of Le Sserafim, not only do they not get a say in what concepts they do, they also have two minors.

  • Nah i don't think it's as bad also search about male and female gaze it's areal thing, some bgs like BTS (my favs) do have the female gaze and i say this as a woman

Most of the comments I've seen have been about the younger members so I don't really know. Personally I don't have an issue with Sakura and Chaewon since they're both adults and are also not new to the industry

  • I have a bigger issue with people overhyping female empowerment and "owning your sexuality" in groups whose entire image, sound and marketing are carefully designed by a team that consists predominantly of men.

I'm sorry but your faves' lyrics have nothing to do with female empowerment when they're written by a middle aged man whose main goal is to score a hit.

It's the same thing with lsrf in a roundabout way. Calling their over sexualised concept out isn't the same thing as slut shaming the girls because the girls aren't responsible for the concept. And from what previous groups with risqué concepts said, these concepts are usually forced on the girls. So if you think you're protecting these idols by defending these sleazy concepts, you're deadly wrong.

What about when these concepts are forced on male idols?

  • as long as they arent minors or arent being abused any debate about this is just needless drama

  • How do you guys find these ridiculous topics to discuss? male gazey? lmaoo Please go outside and interact with other humans.

  • people call everything oversexualised when in reality Kpop is by definition very tame. especially nowadays. Nobody is even touching sexy concepts like 2nd gen. The boygroups are far more forward. And I don't think this crticism is really coming from a good place most of the time, it's just something to drag them for. Most groups are at least a bit sexy, yes, that includes all the teen crush, girl crush concepts. There's no problem with bare shoulders when Kpop idols wear skirts so short they have to wear "safety pants"

    This.

The difference between how in kpop this subject is treated in contrast with how it's treated in regards to American and other Western artists that go way beyond anything seen in kpop when it comes to sexiness, sexual gestures and showing skin... there is no comparison.

Kpop is almost prudish in comparison, and even tamer than it used to be in the first half of 2010s.

I think it's just used as a weapon, a means to drag a group, idol and company in most cases.

i don't understand your logic; there are girls as cheerleader in soccer game, girls in swimming. sprinting competition in Olympics, ballerina etc.. mostly minors and mostly half butt naked but you find that entertaining yet you have problem with this girls? idk if you're a male or female but you surely have pedophile kinda thinking. and i also watch sakura birthday bts video and one of the member kazuha was wearing her t-shirt like a sexualized sports bra, does the company forced her to do it ?

    Not the gaslighting :pepe-joy:

  • Y'all just throw around that word like it's nothing

You deadass told me, a woman, that I'm thinking like a pedophile because I don't like seeing companies ran by middle aged men sexualise women around the same age as me for gain :suure:

It's always the same argument, the moment someone (usually women) expresses concern over sexualisation, there comes people like you trying to gaslight us into thinking we're perverts.
