Why SM never pushes Red Velvet/f(x) as hard as Aespa?

    Approved the thread.
  • aespa has big fandom that's why and more potential to be the no.1 gg of their gen so. Sm probably was salty that in 3rd gen twice and bp overshadowed rv and fx well they weren't really a contender among top ggs in 2nd gen. But its honestly lowkey sad, rv had the biggest potential in the west out of every other sm group.

  • RV should've been the group to perform in coachella not rookies. RV is a better performer and actual english versions of their songs

  • I don't think SM have that pull, if they had they would've done it sooner. And SM also don't have an American company representing their artists like some of the other big K-pop companies.

From what I understood from CL's comments, it's the organizers of events like Coachella themselves that invite artists for their show.

Just like it happened in former years with several other K-pop artists.

f(x) did go to another American event, namely SXSW.

  • RV need to have actual US sales first.

  • because they think they have a chance with aespa to be the next you know

  • sm got a deal with a US company actually

  • I love RV but let's be honest here. They lack stage presence and international appeal. Aespa lack stage presence too but I find their persons their interesting.

  • Because they're forced to now that snsd is not a thing anymore and exo are serving.

At the time sm didn't need red velvet and fx to become the top since they already had a top group.

Aespa is the only new group in the company and they're trying to push them to become a big group like snsd and exo.

But tbh I'm not sure it'll work...

  • They are able to retain #1 gg for their gen on which f(x) and RV haven't able to do that in their respectives gen. Plus, aespa has quite promising US sales for their debut album probably that's why.

  • RV would kill it at coachella. They’re sm’s most successful group in the west, it’s crazy that sm doesn’t want to push them there. However, I’ve heard that red velvet is probably going to perform at a festival in london this summer.

That's a myth, outdated news. They're phenomenal at their concerts and even excel individually on stage in collab performances, not to forget that they've proven to be better singers live on stage than most other groups.

Aespa is the girl group doing best right now, making waves too. So they're the more logical choice for now, from SM's side and from the Coachella organisation when they'd request K-pop groups.

But yes, Red Velvet would be a solid choice too, if I recall it right they have also performed on other international (kpop) events in the West in previous years.

  • Just an assumption, but SM had it easy with Girls Generation and TVXQ, so they were going by brand to bring them popularity. They debuted Exo and they shot up to the top as well. But the 3rd gen taught them that the name SM was not enough to become the most popular group. As proven with the mid level of Exo and RV, so now they're trying everything and anything for Aespa and NCT.

  • Rv wasn't as popular as aespa was especially after twice and BP debuted.

Aespa have hits to their name a year after debut plus the gp can't get enough of them.
