Is the use of ads getting out of control nowadays?

  • When twitter scrapped all the fake follower accounts that some people bought en masse, a lot of large twitter accounts got exposed for being fake popular. It was a big deal back then.

So yes, a lot of people dislike it when popularity is misrepresented due to bought numbers.

why do people still care about the view bumver on yt??

They are either inflating with ads or fandom streaming with multiple devices.

It isn't a problem if people are aware that a lot of the views are from bought ads.

And as long as the bought ads aren't used against only to bring down specific groups while being ignored when other groups do it. I can recall how bought ads were an issue when NCT and Aespa were profiting from it, where it was used against them time and time again, but ignored when JYP groups had the same amount of bought ads. That's double standards.

There's also a difference between bought ads and fandom streaming.

Bought ads can bring up the views with 30-40M in a week or 2 like that, something that fandom streaming won't be able to (unless you're BP or BTS maybe), while the advantage of fandom streaming will only be more prevalent a couple of months further down the line, when views will be kept on an oddly high number.

  • At least youtube is making bank

  • wait wait wait do you mean that they stick the mv's in the ads?

    not the teasers?

lmfao like what a person gonna sit through an ad that's like 3 mins long and not guaranteed to be a bop or to the taste of the listener/viewer

I think they try and slide them into randomised playlists people might have going, thinking the user will think its just another song in the queue and not an ad.

Good thing, at least on my PC, I adblock everything and dont get these ads.

But... I also think ads should NOT count as a view and Youtube should block that from happening.

But Youtube wont because then the companies wont but ads.

  • At the end of the day ads mean nothing, we as Kpop fans need to suck it up because they're legitimate marketing uses and music shows should be the ones changing their criteria

  • People say it’s for promoting but it’s also cheating when music shows consider yt views as points because they don’t filter the organic views from ad views. This is extremely unfair

  • Let not act like fandom inflating yt views with multiple device is organic.

There is literally no problem with using ads to promote the group like you said it is.

there's a huge difference between fans trying to inflate (and all fans doing this, so it's somewhat proportional) and the company essentially buying views and depending on who threw more money around.

I can't think of any serious musicians outside K-Pop using so many ad views, so the "it's promotion" thing is just stupid. it's for mediaplay and nothing else.

you only have to watch about 30 seconds to count as a view and what they do is they put them into music playlists where people will take a while to realise they're not listening to something they chose. They work extremely well, we've seen it. Like take Ive's last comeback, after 3 days they had like 30+ million views on the counter but in reality less than 4 million views excluding ads. That's a HUGE difference.

  • people be like it's just promotion

but no it's not, it inflates numbers like crazy

like Big Bang demolished Ive on Youtube for example in organic views but you'd never know it based on the counter, the counter is therefore completely meaningless.

also idt txt use ads, their view/like ratio seems fairly legit

Omg, stop please. That's not an achievement. Big Bang should do more. Instead their views are only doing that much?

A group that debuted in 2006 should do more than a group that debuted in 2021? You think ive or any of the other fourth gen groups will pull numbers close to bigbang 15 years into their career when they can't do that in their first year?

I thought they paved the way? And they sold millions of albums according to an article and they're number 1 in SK? Aren't they doing well on Melon?

    Their views should be more.

  • It's crazy how much ads boost views. It makes their use understandable but ad views are even less relevant to a group's popularity than streamed views.

  • This is a common perspective. For example, the use of ads has a direct impact on music show scores, which might make it possible for groups with a higher ad count to win against a group that doesn't use ads.

This is my only issue. I wish music shows would count only organic views and not ads.

Regarding the use of ads I don't really care much since it's a good way of promoting a song
