Nowadays it is getting more and more normal for even newly debuted kpop groups to use an extensive amount of ads on their music videos to boost the group's popularity and give them exposure. Some examples of groups that use ads are gidle, ive, brave girls, txt, itzy and many more. Is the use of ads getting out of control and giving a disadvantage for groups that do not opt for such marketing measures, since it can be argued that ads are essentially creating a false reality? What do you guys think?

people be like it's just promotion
but no it's not, it inflates numbers like crazy
like Big Bang demolished Ive on Youtube for example in organic views but you'd never know it based on the counter, the counter is therefore completely meaningless.
also idt txt use ads, their view/like ratio seems fairly legit

I meant to write stray kids instead of txt, sorry for the confusion.

This is a common perspective. For example, the use of ads has a direct impact on music show scores, which might make it possible for groups with a higher ad count to win against a group that doesn't use ads.

I agree. In my opinion love dive's use of ads is too much, similar to gidle's tomboy. It is one thing to want to promote a group better, but boosting the views by 30-40 m is overdoing it.

My take is they don't use them for promotion at all, companies are looking to inflate the actual popularity but I personally do not give a crap. The world and even more so the music industry are all about climbing your way up with money and connection so ads are just extension of that.

They're not really a good example for excessive ads. They do get a few days of ads in the first week but that's it. Stray Kids' MVs from previous years are still going strong, for instance, in 2021 the second and third most viewed 4th gen boy group MVs (only in 2021) were God's Menu and Back Door.
-
If the groups can have longevity regardless of ads after months, then It's not creating any false reality.
I agree to a certain extent. If the mv views continue to increase steadily even after the use of ads has ended, then it is legimite growth that the ads just boosted, but this is often not the case.

I actually think it's an issue and I'm kinda annoyed at people saying it's not a big deal.
A group gets like 30 million views so you think they're popular but in actuality the MV really only has like 500k views sometimes. It's ridiculous. Plus when it comes to music shows where views count towards their scores, it's really unfair.

That is true. Stray Kids use ads, but their organic mv views are still strong, even though they are using ads. The same can be said for bts. However, there are many groups in the industry who struggle to get 10 m organic views, but ads boost their views by even 50 m.

At the top of my head, I think TWICE, ITZY, Stray Kids and aespa are like that. But yes, It's not really common.

wait wait wait do you mean that they stick the mv's in the ads?
not the teasers?
lmfao like what a person gonna sit through an ad that's like 3 mins long and not guaranteed to be a bop or to the taste of the listener/viewer
fuggin styooopid
thou- if they do put like double/triple ads on their own mv then that's alright tbh
OH WAIT WHAT IF THEY PUT AN AD OF THEIR MV ON THEIR MV THE REPLAY VALUE OF THAT MUST BE TRHOUGH THE ROOF LMFAOOOOo

That's what I'd call excessive. I understand it's promotion but still...

Let not act like fandom inflating yt views with multiple device is organic.
There is literally no problem with using ads to promote the group like you said it is.
