Is the YG family branding a bit too forced?

  • I’m all for YG artists interaction but are the reaction videos/dance covers recently a bit forced? Should YG make the interaction more natural?

    Approved the thread.
  • Have they really run with the yg family lately? That was a thing 10 years ago with bigbang, 2ne1, psy, epik high basically.

The still life reactions is obvious from the point of view of men who are where they are because of bigbang and who grew up with them as idols, not so much a family thing.

  • cringe i even heard that treasure performed 4 yg songs in their tour

It's nothing new, though. YG groups have always done this. I know it seems like there's been an uptick of this, but that's only due to activities becoming more frequent again after a long drought due to COVID-19.

WINNER performed a BIGBANG song during their tour. iKON performed a BIGBANG song during theirs. Blackpink's Rosé performed Taeyang's songs and one of Bom's songs. It was always happening.

It's not much different from other companies either, where artists also cover other artists from their companies' songs. SM has their artists reacting to each other's music videos. Karina and Kai did their performance. Karina was a dancer for Taemin's performances. They have their SM concerts, too.

Just more examples of YG Family things from back in the day. It's nothing new.

  • gonna be honest YG should probably stick them near in the same neighborhood with a common area or smth

common room/ courtyard interactions are usually pretty genuine lol

Honestly, this. YG Family was more of a thing during 2nd gen and early 3rd gen. Not so much now.

Sure, you'll probably see them covering each other's songs these days and doing reaction videos to each other's MVs, what company doesn't do this?

Not sure why people think it's cringe. It's always been a thing in the K-pop industry. Fans love those sunbaenim moments and it's normal since they're colleagues in the same company after all. Companies also encourage it because it's a way to promote their artists. It would be weirder to pretend these groups aren't from the same company.

  • I don't understand why they keep forcing the family agenda, it's not like YG had many company stans as SM that doing this would benefit the groups. I recently start liking Treasure but their first concert being a lowkey YG tribute was such a turn off, why can't YG treat them like BP and let them have as little interaction with other YG groups as possible?

Blackpink covered other YG groups' songs all the time, though. You might see Blackpink as being "exclusive" due to their limited comebacks, but at the end of the day, they're still part of this. There are lots of YG fans. You don't see this as much on AKP, but there's a huge demographic of K-pop fans in the real world who don't have to worry about being labeled a company stan. They love things like this.

  • Yes and I hope bp stay out of this mess

  • BP's interaction with other YG groups is minimal, the ones you listed were pretty much the only instances I could think of. Meanwhile everytime Treasure does a cover it's almost guaranteed to be a YG song it's so predictable. YG family agenda is also all over treasure's other content as well. I just want them be their own group and not a YG tribute act it's not an unreasonable thing to ask for.

  • Are people afraid of the rise of YGE stans? Bc i don't see how a company doing something so common is a problem. Kpop fans are so annoying. Just bc you don't like an artist, doesn't mean your fave also doesn't like the artist. It's just you the weird one.

  • If it's something that's being promoted by the company YG Entertainment themselves, more so than the past couple of years, then it looks like they're trying to make it a thing again like 2nd gen times.

But they'll need to push it a lot more to accomplish that, meaning that you'll see a noticeable increase in cross group interactions between members of YG groups, if making YG family happen again is an actual agenda YGE have for this year.

  • Gladly BP isn't being pushed in that shit

  • as for blackpink, wasnt the saying that YG kept them locked away from any interaction with any of the boygroups? Kinda problematic in itself..

Ive only ever seen them interact/work with bigbang members.

Yes they did say male and female trainee/artist were separated. Nowadays who knows, but yg wouldn't push bp into the family agenda when they know most blinks hate the company lol

Reading between the lines I think there was probably some kind of incident between a male and female trainee. Not dating because at least one member of the BP unnie line had a boyfriend at YG while a trainee, but something else. Permanent separation of male and female trainees is quite a dramatic move. We'll probably never know though.
