Do you think teachers should accept late work if it's not graded yet?

We have a policy, I think it's 10% off or something for big assignments
For smaller ones it's a little less

They should accept late work even if they already graded it. If a student wants to try again and do something over to learn the material better, it should be encouraged. The overall point of class isn't punctuality... yes it means something, the real world has deadlines, but to hold it higher than actually learning?
Now, if it's a habit...

Wow i didn't even know some teachers didn't accept it
In my school they always do but normally subtract one or two pointsSometimes they'll pardon you if you're a good student or if the work is REALLY well done. I think that's a good criteria but it gives more liberties to everyone and the less the limits are respected the more people do what they want, so there should be boundaries and exceptions only for very specific cases, at least that's how i would do it.
