Why is only Blackpink successful as YG group and not the other YG groups?

  • Korean charting? Which is her main market

  • Nah I wouldn't say yg believed in Winner, he didn't even expect them to win the survival show and was disappointed when they did. He then left them rot in prison after they debuted for nearly 2 years before making them comeback.

YG hated Winner, the look on his face when they won was priceless.

His hope had been that Team B (iKON) would come out as the 'fair' winners and prove their champion status: that was the narrative that YG liked, that all his groups were survivors and winners, and Team B was more his style.

This became apparent when he put Winner in the dungeon very soon and immediately made plans to launch Team B as iKON anyway.

I also think he despised Jinwoo, he was everything YG hated: not swag, not badass, a softie and on top of that, Jinwoo embarassed YG at the YG-JYP friendly competition by messing up and forgetting his lines. If YG hates anything, then it's when his artists damage his company image of being invincible and the top dogs.

Dumb Dumb reached #8 on melon. 120M YT views. Won GD award best performance, Brand Award best female soloist.

Her Spotify streams per single are top tier for female soloists, close to IU.

She has had tons of endorsements. Just this year so far: Alba Heaven, LV, L'oreal, Converse, Kiss Me, Cosrx, Samsung, Petite Paris, Condition Stick. Great for income and GP recognition.

Teddy's strategy for BP and Somi is focused on endorsements. That's where they make most of their money, and it doesn't require any risk for the company. The BP girls clearly have the highest incomes out of the female idols right now, and Somi also has one of the highest incomes out of 3rd and 4th gen female idols (except BP).

  • Great.. one more model/influencer who occasionally sings...

Sure they will make a lot of money, but 30-50 years later history will look at discography and not advertisements, even if present day fans don't.

  • It's like saying why can't hybe have a successful group like bts.

Your standards of success are way too high.

Endorsements are more important than you think.

The GP exposure endorsements give the artists opens up opportunities outside of just the idol world, making them more flexible, and the money allows them to survive slumps (if they save and invest well). It gives the artists longevity in the entertainment business, without relying on luck as much, and they get more control over their careers, because they are not desperate.

Who is saying endorsements aren't important?

Many other idols manage to do good amount of music and then endorsements,

These YG acts are the reverse.. Kardashians of K-pop, little substance i.e music, all style.

I'm saying endorsements are good for longevity, allowing the artist to keep making music as long as they want, without relying on luck as much. The music focused approach that you are advocating falls apart if they get unlucky and don't get a hit a couple comebacks in a row. At that point they don't have the funds to continue and fade away, like almost all pop artists except the lucky few. In 30-50 years all people remember are the hits, so the longer you can stay in the game making music the better.
