  • Lol some people already writing her off like c'mon now.

Plant was her first album after a whole 3 year layoff after Jellyfish buried her in Gugudan, and she's got a music show win from it.

Warning was literally her first comeback that was actually strictly under her name without the Gugudan tag, and her first after the resurgence from The Uncanny Counter. They didn't even have solo social media (Twitter, YouTube, IG etc.) established until like 3 weeks before the album release.

People always say give them time when it comes to newly debuted artists, but honestly this should also be applied to her here, because the way Jellyfish had fucked up the hype from IOI to Gugudan was like the worst in Kpop history. And of course, it will take time for her to build up a fanbase again.

And it's not like her music career has completely disappeared anyways. She's still had OSTs for huge dramas like Mr Sunshine and her own drama, and especially for Crash Landing On You, which was a legit hit OST.

  • She's so multi talented that I think she'll have a bright future anyway

Like she is already having a great moment in acting

  • Fair enough.

But it is "people want more to be written of her singing", rather than "people writing her off".

Yes failures in promotional strategies is definitely a major cause

Nevertheless ballads aren't the trend of the day and soloists have a even smaller niche with ballads,

Now that the drama has given a huge boost as a promotion, if they persist on the same style, it won't help much.

OSTs of course are a different dynamic entirely

As others have mentioned, it is also her choice.

  • I guess her "brand" is still ballad, but from her last album, only one song is a ballad track.

And in Plant, she didn't even want Plant as the title track, and wanted Skyline instead, but Jelpi wanted to go for a safer route. Interestingly, Skyline became the more popular song, so :S:S:S .

And maybe just me, but I have a lot of confidence in her music. She's still writing songs even when she's super busy with drama filming, variety, CFs, etc. and she's mentioned many times that she will continue singing in the future, and how much she misses the stage during her drama activities. The only thing that's missing is a lack of discography, but that will take time to build, so just need to be patient with it.

Sejeong always had more potential in variety shows and acting and since apparently she realized she can't beat Lee Jieun in singing, she carved her own niche in acting . I don't think she will sing again, like Suzy. Occasionally a digital single if she feels like, once per a blue moon.

Oh Jasque-O-Part2 why did you do that?

As usual WhyKnock had to pitch nonsense relating IU.

If "beating" IU is the criteria, then K-pop scene pretty much will have only IU as a female singer left and nobody else even trying. True for other professions as well.

But thankfully that is not the case, there is enough space and large market for multiple talents to thrive. Sejeong need not "beat" IU, but surely can compete with Chungha/Somi/Yuri/Eunbi/Yena etc., IF she wants to and then IF she capitalizes on the acting popularity with songs which tap into the current Kpop trends.

Or she can go for Gummy/Ailee type OST career.

  • Actually, unlike the people you had put off, Sejeong does have acting opportunities.

Her vocals and dancing are at best above average. Not too exceptional. While she does have some kind of aura in acting which is harder to beat and a good variety show participant.

So she is just doing what she does best, that's all

The entire discussion is premised on "if she wants to"..

Her vocals are actually far better than the K-pop average, while her dancing might actually be under the k-pop average.

But neither are actually as relevant to the fact, that she has considerable popularity that can be leveraged to pursue an idol's career.

#1. Idol-ing seems to be her interest since young, since she competed, auditioned, trained, survived etc.

#2. Even if her interest have changed, it makes eminent sense to retain multiple channel activity to stay relevant as a celebrity.

So if she is to continue "idol-ing" then a diversifying her style would be good.
