Chart peaks don't tell the whole story

  • Take Lee Hi's last comeback for example:

The pre release track Only peaked at #93 on Gaon while the title track Red Lipstick peaked at #30. Red Lipstick also made it to #22 on Billboard's World digital chart.

Now about six months later Only has 44M YouTube views while Red Lipstick has 9M views. Only has over 100M Spotify streams while Red Lipstick has over 8M.

Obviously Only is the more successful song but it has the lower Gaon peak and never made it on Billboard's World digtal chart.

    Approved the thread.
  • From the stat you bring

It mostly prove that red lipstick was more successfull in korea

    And only internationally

  • Only currently has more Likes on Melon than Red Lipstick but non-Koreans can Like songs on Melon so not a good stat to reference.

  • Stabality >> chart peak and then free fall

  • Of course chart peak doesn't tell the whole story, I think that barely anyone claims that it does.

But chart peak does paint a part of the whole picture.

How high a song can chart, how long it stayed there, and how it's still doing after months all together tell the story of how well a song did.

Also you're comparing international with Korean success which are clearly 2 different things.
