i think everyone who really liked kpop became a kpop stan but the general public doesnt rlly care anymore. most ppl cant even name all the bts membersššš and i doubt theyre going to spend time learning other group and their members names. it was a fad but i think ppl got tired of it fast. also all the asian hate showed just how racist the us can be. the us only loves its white girls. once bts and blackpink pull out, kpop is probably not going to ever gonna hit top 10 except for maybe if psy comes out with gangnam style pt 2

The west can't be tired because they never cared about kpop for starters. The ones who are tired are those who have to discuss with armys online
agreed with the first part, but last part didn't have to be so bitter lol
only acts really pulling in new kpop fans (from the gp) were bts and bp & from there on most of them spread through other acts, but most people still dont give a f about kpop & never will. it is and always has been a niche industry where most gp still has a prejudicement against. bts going mainstream with dynamite/MU hasn't changed that.
however, i could see the western industry getting fed up with kpop in the future tho.. they see it as an easy money grab, with how loyal kpop fandoms are, but i think their ego's can't handle this for much longer & the benefits aren't worth it (since most acts don't bring in bts/bp numbers).

All the people saying all of kpop is a niche market in the west are correct.

my post was directed to all the threads trying to predict the next big group whos going to break out into the western market. the real answer is none of them. the west doesn't care abt kpop and as soon as blackpink and bts pull out, its going to be as relevant as jpop. ppl know abt its existence but ppl dont care except the actual fans.

At least people are realising that itās not kpop that was rising in the west, itās BTS and to a lesser extent, Blackpink. The rest are just popular among kpop fans not gp. And by luck some BTS and BP fans get into kpop, increasing the number of kpop community, hence more recognition for the other groups.

The height of kpop expansion was 2017-2018. That was the time it was getting really popular and was the best time to gain casuals because people were trying out other groups to see what the genre was about. Now everyone knows kpop and you either like it or don't give a shit. The only one still pulling in casuals is bts.
The chance to get really huge outside the community seems to have passed now. Even Lisa didn't get that despite her massive viral hit. Songs will go viral every now and then but they won't translate to much unless a miracle happens.

exactly. lisa might be the biggest female idol out there, but gp have no idea who she is.
i would say the same thing about jimin (jungkook), but i think some gp may know him, purely from trending so much & being the kpop name they use most often when they make kpop comments in general.
gp knows bts by name (lesser extend bp), but most of them probably don't even know the members

Not quite yet, not while we keep seeing insane and still mostly upwardly trending sales, stream numbers and records from even new groups. When unpopular comebacks like weeeklys recent one still sells 2.6 times higher than their previous release, you can see theres still demand for kpop in markets outside the traditional areas.
But theres got to be a critical mass at some point and then things start heading down. Probably midway through 4th gen, when the last 3rd gen holdout groups start disbanding or slowing down.
