Based on this article, they have a long history of mediaplay. I’ve seen they recently mediaplayed a lot for Treasure too. Why would a top company need to mediaplay so much?
They don't need to. They just do. With Treasure it's because they want them to have a higher profile than they have. They don't seem to know what to do with Blackpink and I think the plan was for Treasure to take over as top group, but that's not happening.
They're not the only ones though. Most K-Pop companies mediaplay. Army and Blinks fell out in 2018 over YG mentioning BTS in a press release, but Army always try to deny that Big Hit sat BTS on Bigbang's coat-tails for quite a while. There are screenshots of Big Hit tagging Bigbang on BTS's YouTube videos. I don't know if these will show up, but they're out there.

almost all companies mediaplay by using bigger artists
maybe some stupid armys deny it, but most can admit hybe have used bb in the beginning years (bc they were the bigger act then)
however fans of yg acts seem to always deny yg using mediaplay for their faves.. if you tell a vip that yg used to mediplay bb with other big acts of that time or that yg mediaplayed bp with bts till ~2019, you either get called delusional or a misogynist

Back then in the 2nd generation of kpop, YGE would media-play 2NE1 by comparing them to SNSD, and BIGBANG. Now, they have media-played off of BTS for western validation by saying BlackPink are BTS’s ““counter-parts”.
Obviously these article are in Korean, but when translated they try to play off BlackPink as being the same level if not better than BTS. YG played them as underdogs when BlackPink weren’t. Not only that, but they used TWICE gain more attention for BlackPink in Japan.
In this article they are saying that BlackPink had more physical album sales than TWICE, and that they are better.
I fought the "BTS popular because of social media, Blackpink popular because of music" troupe so much because of YG. From that grew "BTS only has fans, Blackpink has the general public" and the war continued. They span a tale and the fans followed it which was dumb because it pissed off ARMYs even more.
