materialism and superficiality

have you ever felt like

valuing superficial things ( to a lesser extent ) materialistic things is very commonly criticized

yet

those are the very things everyone seems to be attracted to

like

even for the most righteous people, their words and actions just dont seem to match up at all

do you think its hypocrisy or excusable behavior ?

are we naturally hyopcrites?

i think there are degrees and that a lot of things are okay in moderation that become problematic when done more

I guess it depends on what you're talking about. I think we all know that most people would like to have nicer things if possible and if the cost isn't too high. We would all prefer to live in a nice home rather than a hovel. We would all prefer to be with a partner that we find attractive rather than not. It's when people act like they would do immoral things to get the nicer house or if they value superficial attractiveness over more meaningful things that we start to side eye that.

I'm one of those who isn't interested in material objects. They don't mean much to me, people showing off what they've got just because they've got money. I'm not someone who is bogged down by possessions. I prefer to live my life surrounded by people I love and memories.

I think that the materialistic things are a means to an ends

the ends being one's own happiness or the happiness of others...

at the end of the day having more money means more opportunities!!! whether it be ailing one's woes like sickness, material pleasures, giving that money away to see happiness in others, not working or studying to enjoy time with family friends or hobbies!!!

those that say money can't buy happiness has obviously never been to the right shop!!!!

This is true too. Who cares how people spend their money or how much they flaunt it. To each their own. As long as you're not hurting anyone, go for it!

Sure ideals are great and all

but material resources is what lends you power now. (<<keep that with a grain of salt because corruption and bribery is a thing so clearly doesn't trump ideals 100% of the time)

so its always a lesson in moderation. Everyone draws their line somewhere, usually near the middle.

I like those things to an extent, but an endless chase for them won't bring true fulfillment. It isn't feasible anyway. Memories, experiences, and interpersonal connections bring more value to life.

Everyone just wants to be loved and appreciated in some way. Nothing's going to replicate that.
