Never been to Finland, but I lived in a place nearby for several months.
In the winter days are super short, and it can be extremely cold. As a person who's originally from a very sunny, very warm country, getting used to that was definitely the biggest challenge when I moved to that area of Europe. So you need to be sure you can cope with only very few hours of sunlight (if any) during winter, because at some point, it really started affecting my mood.
People aren't exactly the warmest you'll ever meet, but they are very considerate and friendly when you get to know them (the Finnish people I've met were really funny and loud, when at first they seem very distant and hard to approach).
Finnish is a very difficult language to understand/learn, but English is widely spoken afaik so you won't have a problem with it.
Healthcare and education in Finland is really good, and it's a very safe country. If you like snow and cold weather, it's perfect for you. I think you'll like it.

that is true lol its always given that there would be a street for cars
but rarely a bike trail or even a bike lane -- *sigh*
I really wish there were more bike roads, I'd prefer riding my bike over driving any day.

What city is your university at? I live in Tampere and we have quite a bit of foreigners here. Of course Helsinki has the most tourists and foreigners though! Almost everyone speaks english here, so you will be fine without knowing any finnish here It depends where you’re moving from but it is pretty cold here, the summer’s are lovely though! Feel free to ask me anything you’d like to know I’ve lived in america before so I know what it’s like moving to another country.

I would also say that moving to another country by yourself is a really good learning experience! It is definitely worth it :)

It’s so funny - when I go to Finland everyone speaks Finnish to me and I’m like no I really am not Finnish and they shake their heads as if I’m lying.
