Honest question about Twice

  • I went to their concert and I was excited but I wanted to know if it was only me that felt this way. Were they lip syncing most of the concert? Some parts were live but most of it felt lip sync for me. I wasn’t disappointed. They did look very cute and I had fun. But as a first kpop concert I was surprised at the level of lip sync.

  • Lip sync and backtracks. Honestly very common in K-pop. Only very competent singing groups sing completely live.

  • There's a certain amount of lip syncing and back track for kpop concerts because a lot of is dance focused performances. Doing that for 3 or more hours, a few nights in a row is tough. It's hard to sing well as dance like that so it's normal for some lip sync.

But then again it is Twice who already need a lot of lip sync for regular music shows so I guess that applies to concerts too.

  • only few groups actually sing live, concerts included

  • They were onstage constantly for three hours performing. Jihyo's energy was as high at the end as it was at the start. Let's be honest - no-one cares about live vocals in K-Pop except as a stick to hit other groups with in fanwars. K-Pop was never meant to be the pinnacle of vocal talent (even though some idols do have genuine talent). If you wanted to be entertained for three hours hopefully you got that. If vocals are your thing, go and see Adele.

  • Depends tho.Sm have the best singing groups but their idols rarely sing live.

If you're talking music shows, then sure, but this applies to most other groups, Big 4 and otherwise, too.

When it comes to concerts, that's untrue, because they sing a lot of it live.

Also at radio shows, vlives, other variety shows, encores etc they sing a lot live. There's far more live singing material of most of their active groups (with the exception of Aespa) than most other groups have, Mamamoo being one of the few exceptions.

Lip syncing is a regular thing on music shows, it's not as if TWICE are unique in this, most if not all groups frequently do.

And you're right, with 3 hour shows it's not strange if they'll lipsync or have loud backtracks with the dance heavy performances. It's not even unique for k-pop, concerts of Western pop artists the same: anyone who thinks those are fully without lipsync happening should check again, even pop star celebrities do.
