Hello! First of all, please don't start fanwars in here, this is meant to be relatively lighthearted. If you want to fight, do it elsewhere. You can express disagreement, but the moment it gets to insults from either side, I'm going to have to step in and ask both of you to stop. This thread is not meant to shade or hate on any fandoms or groups, just be hilarious, so make your responses funny!
Anyway, what insults, related to K-Pop, commonly make you laugh or smirk, not feel offended? Why is that? You can give a serious answer, joke answer or both. Both the joke answer and serious answer are true, but the joke answer is funny, while the serious answer explain why in a more detailed and relevant sense. I'll give some of mine and provide both serious and joke answers to distinguish what I mean between the two and to break the ice
Insult: K-poppies
Joke answer: I'm sorry, whenever I hear this term, my mind always goes straight to Korean Poppies (Poppies grown in Korea). As in the pretty flowers. Then I wonder how we got from arguing over sales to flowers (not that I mind). It always makes me laugh at least a tiny bit, which is a nice distraction to have in the middle of a fanwar.
Serious answer: I think of a K-poppy as someone who is into K-Pop. That's the most obvious thing that comes to mind after the flower. I assume most of us are on this forum because we love, or at least like, K-Pop, am I right? Wouldn't that make us all K-poppies by definition then? Whenever someone brings up this term in a fanwar, I'm like: "Yeah, I am, but so are you. What's your point? Is there something wrong with being into K-Pop? Then why are you into it as well?" I can't understand this insult for the life of me at all.
Insult: Flop
Joke answer: When I hear this answer, my mind goes to flip-flops, but more specifically, the shoe landing in sand (because you flip it off your foot and it flops onto the ground, the more you know). Then, my inner child comes out and I think: "Wheeeeee" and yeah. Fun times.
Serious answer: I see this term used so much that it's gotten to a point where I think it is almost never correctly applied. First of all, for the most part, since flop is used to mean failed (in the case of fanwars), it is subjective to an extent. As I discovered from arguing with some ARMYs on here, not everyone has the same definition of doing good, which further proves my point so far. Also, a lot of people use it to describe well off groups, not so much lesser-known groups. Because fewer people know about them, fewer people know how they could be doing better, so they don't get called that as often (not saying I want them to be called that, don't get me wrong, just keep in mind if you think you're favorite big/medium sized group is flopping, you can sleep safely at night, compared to other groups, they are doing great! Some K-Pop albums sell less than 1,000!) Basically, flop is very subjective (to me), yet people still find a way to misuse it and toss it around like candy.
Anyway, those are the two I thought of. For those of you that are inevitably going to be like: "How can you think both ways, which one is right?" Chill, both are right. I think of the joke answer first, then after a few seconds, the serious answer comes to me right after. I derailed myself from my original post enough (as I always do), but I'm curious. What K-Pop insults can you not take seriously and why? Have a great day/night!
Edit: I just forgot my bias exposed the silliness of two of these and I forgot all about it until just now! I feel so dumb right now, here they are, enjoy the free laughs:
