I think it's fair to assume most male idols are sexist and colorist

  • I have come to this conclusion after watching Singles Inferno, which is full of ordinary men who probably reflect the standard view of males in SK towards women

    Approved the thread.
  • curious why it says just males like standards of skin color and how "men" should be isnt very rigid in sk media either........

  • "ordinary men"

Singles Inferno might be more lowkey but it's still a dating reality show. Is Love Island or Too Hot Too Handle a good representation of ordinary people? Lol no

But yes, Korea is not exactly the picture of equality and many/most are most likely sexist.

For colorism it depends on where you draw the line. Finding pale skin attractive is not necessarily a big deal, same way sun kissed skin is considered attractive in the west. Suppose it depends on how extreme the mens' opinions are.

  • I feel like the colorism thing is a bit overblown. I don't remember the exact videos, but there are videos in which Korean men are asked about their preferences in appearance. Many of them attributed tan skin to being healthy, preferring it.

Remember that K-pop doesn't reflect the entire population of South Korea. Korean men and women still have their own preferences, and many of them like darker skin. It's quite popular among the bodybuilding, fitness crowd, for instance. Single's Inferno demonstrated that the tan participants, both men and women, are considered attractive.

Another example: Loco had a crush on Hwasa and she has darker skin.

As far as sexism goes, South Korean society isn't as updated with gender equality as, say, the United States. It's catching up slowly, but it's far from achieving it. There's still a growing feminist movement, so that's good sign. Joy from Red Velvet has shown over time she's all about this, and I hope more female Korean celebrities start to speak about it even if subtly.

  • oh i think women are colorist too. many female idols have talked about skin color before (twice, for example). i accidentally posted the thread too early lol

well depends on what part of life it applies to tbh

if its about how you treat people, it is bad indeed

if its people's love life's ehhh i dont think its different than any other physical aspect

its just being shallow but no love is unconditional accept that of family so to each their own

  • Well said

  • ?it's their beauty standard.Like how western people prefer tanned skin.

  • truth is 50% chances that korean male idols are shitty statistics says so

  • So are men in every country. What's your point? :pepe-tea:

  • It is not fair to assume how people are in general, because of an effing show? people on my country are nothing like rs -_-'' it is childish and downright paranoic to think this way about every single f person

  • My ult is definitely a lookist. A white girl used to have a crush on him but he seemed disappointed by this development because she was nerdy and unattractive.
