russia likely feels the need to play arm wrestle with nato, especially since NATO was originally meant to be against russia.

I'd say though Russia has been stirring a lot of nonsense and uses very dirty tactics. (not saying that the US or nato doesn't) but Russia does a bad job of hiding it. Especially when china AND Russia kinda used big stick policy (building up troops on borders) etc.

Its flipping toxic and I wish they'd stop lmao.

of course but I think Russia senses the US having their own problems covid and whatnot and don't want to engage in yet another conflict so it flexes it's muscles to try to make use of the situation

The best way to unify a team is to give them a common enemy. Russia knows the US is splintered but already most of the bills that pass through congress regarding russian aggression have higher rates of bipartisanship than most other bills.

what for? this buidup on the border is nothing more than a reminder to Ukraine not to do stupid things in the Donbass. I don't understand why some countries go into hysterics every time this happens, how are they not sick of it yet.

Russia should just claim that Ukraine has weapon of mass destruction as a pretext for invasion. I'm pretty sure the rest of the world would support the Russian if you get what I mean.
