The Witcher already trending on Netflix few days before Season 2 release! update: new season released

Do I need to play the game someone gifted me that has been rotting on my shelf of games before I watch the show or?

Witcher 3 doesn't really follow the plotline of the show either way. At least not for season 1!

I have started the books but the game legit is just sitting there and is a 200+ gameplay from what I have been told and I do not wanna have to play it to understand the plot

Not at all. Obviously it helps if you know the characters but the entire show is a prequel to the games so the game knowledge isn't that necessary to the story outside a few small mentions to certain places or events. It's more an adaptation of the books rather than the games. I haven't read the books so I don't know how faithful the show is.
