Why do so many actors look down on idols?

  • Posting here because I'm worried people will think trying to stir up hate for either side which I'm not. the situation is just very sad to me and reflects the view on idols by many people. they refuse to smile or if they do only do slight slight smiles. These are the best responses I saw and even then is very stiff for some groups and took a lot of effort on the idol's part for any reaction. :-( I heard actors look down on idols so I decided to watch videos since I never did but it's sad to see..

Blue dragon especially is hard on the idols. This one made me so sad and it was a great performance. I think Seventeen and Mamamoo's performance was also here so maybe the situation improved.

  • idk but actors are more respected than idols in south korea.they even get their own waiting rooms at MAMA but not idols.Actors are like at the top of hierarchy of celebrities in south korea while idols are at the bottom idk why.

  • Korea sees idols as a bunch of average dancing kids, while actors are seen as royalty. That's just how it is.

  • It's nonsense. Idol music -at least the good ones require a high level of skill and discipline so there is nothing to look down on in comparison to acting. Reasons why though -

    1) the value you place on yourself is the way others will treat you - some idol companies treat their idols like glorified slaves - they dont respect them hence the GP may have also adopted this attitude. 2020 MAMA is a stark example - why would idol companies allow their talent to be out in parking lots as a waiting area while some useless actors are getting waiting rooms. Why are these boomer actors even the MC/hosts - get older 1st/2nd gen idols to do it instead.

  • being an idol is harder than an actor so idk why but it's changing now because of bts

  • Idols have been always looked down on. They are not considered artists by any standard.

  • Nah actors love idols it's just that some performances don't match with the vibe of the show and that's where it gets awkward. Imo Love Killa performance fitted the best with the show, even more considering the whole concept behind it was paying homage to popular movies. Lee Jungjae even took a picture with Jooheon afterwards (this is before Squid Game).

  • From what I've been told by someone who was born, raised and lives in Korea if you think of their social hierarchy in terms of feudal system ** as an analogy, people involved in acting/directing/ screen writing fall under the hood of literature and prose which has always been highly respected where as dancers/singers/performers are more like "jesters" who work to entertain the those who are higher up in power. And even though idols aren't actually working to entertain those higher up in 2021, that stigma is still sorta there. Even in western society although the respect towards actors and singers is more balanced, an actor who stars in an oscar nominated film is still more likely to get respect than a grammy nominated artist, actors are also usually expected to have a higher level of composure where as performers can easily fall victim to the "diva" sterotype.

    Best two answers.

  • These idols work so hard for years and still get looked down upon. I hope kpop's system improved in future and these idols get some freedom snd respect.

  • Actors are snobs. You don't have to like or care for idols but at the very least it's common courtesy to at least not look super disinterested for a performer.
