It's a selfish male issue. They don't want to use condoms, and they know that realistically there are very few consequences for them* if a pregnancy happens. So there's not much chance of a change.

I was already shocked getting to know that Koreans think that being LGBT is a "western disease", now I'm completely shocked with this one. It's a whole new level of ignorance and prejudice.

An old example is the story of the rocker Yim Jaebeom and his half-brother Son Jichang.

Yim Jaebeom's father Yim Taekgeun was a famous TV anchor during 1970s. He was also notorious for his womanizing.

For whatever reason, he had no sons with his legal wife, so Yim Jaebeom, who was a product of an illicit union and had been thrown into an orphanage because the older Yim did not recognize the boy, was brought back and became the son of the family. (Yim Jaebeom only had a daughter to make sure his line will end with him.)

The actor Son Jichang was also kinda famous in 1990s . He is perhaps most famous for singing a duet with Kim Minjong. Son Jichang was the product of a fling between the older Yim and a reporter. Not surprisingly, the older Yim refused to acknowledge his second son, who took the surname of his mother's brother who acted as a father to him.

With the arrangement of Lee Sangmin (former Roora), Son Jichang saw his father for the first time and the result was not good. Son Jichang had two sons with his wife , the actress Oh Yeonsoo, but they all took the surname Son so Yim's male line will die with Yim Jaebeom.

Such kind of things were quite rampant in old Korean entertainment industry because as late as 1950s having concubines was not illegal.
