Kpop is kinda stuck between a rock and a hard place with China and Japan

  • They despise China for plagiarizing their entertainment, culture and ''banning'' Kpop from making a move there. But still, they need c-netizens money. They have a bad past with Japan, but still they need jnetizens money. It's not fun being Korea sometimes...

  • the epitome of this is literally TWICE

9 member group beloved by South Korea but with 3 Japanese members and 1 Taiwanese member

Tzuyu being Taiwanese brought the flag scandal a few months into debut, and cnetz last year railing on her for not donating to China and only South Korea (turns out she did)

Sana being Japanese brought the insta scandal when sana posted a photo talking about the end of the heisei era - did not sit well with koreans

and guess what - jyp couldn't do nothin' (but force that enraging apology video) cuz you suck up to one market you lose the other

  • This is kinda unrelated but do knetizens expect foreign members to just??? yeet away their culture??? Like yeah, they work in South Korea, have to learn the language and conform to cultural standards but the moment any of them mentions anything about their country that is a bit more risque knetizens co crazy. And this only happens with cidols and jidols. The one born or raised in America/NZ/Australia/UK seem to be extempt from this.

  • It’s politically correct mentality on each of those countries

People are programmed to be like a herd that just moves in one direction without much independent thought

  • I'm not a SM stan, but not really surprised, koreans are irrational when it comes to foreign policy, specifically if it's Japan related

But it's actually a interesting dynamic, another example some 2 years ago a member from IZ*ONE Hyewon instead of promoting her group song or even herself promoted the anime Attack on Titan on some idol tv program, forums like pann did not like this at all, because the show was deemed politically inappropriate to them.

Back to now and a few weeks ago the same Attack on Titan was number 1 in popularity in Netflix Korea above some popular local programs, a trending post discussing the appropriateness of this was even translated.

  • it's not just kpop

the relationship between the three has been bad for a long time but gotten really bad and sensitive as of late

that's just the nature of politics and with the internet it get even worse.

it's 2021 y'all, I think new generation already moved on from what happen in the past.

lmao girl it's more than just the past, there's more to it but i won' bore you we're in a kpop forum

I think the reason as to why they don’t react the same way to idols who were born or raised in western countries as they do with idols from china or japan is because korea had a lot of wars and bad history with those two countries. And it seems that there are still some or maybe a lot of tension between korea, japan and china
