Read this comment by a Korean who shifted to Australia who eventually started to love their natural self after shifting

  • Got this from pann, on a thread Titled "Why are there more obese people in foreign countries?"

"Foreigners care less about other people's opinions than Koreans. Of course, don't care what other people think. But when I lived in an Australian city, it was hard to see stereotyped beauty because there were so many different people living with their own personalities. Literally, everything wasn't standardized, and everyone was beautiful in their own way. They are all different races, different bodies, different styles. That is why I always felt that my individuality was respected even if no one else told me that they respect my individuality. I started loving my face without makeup since living in Australia. Even though I wore a cotton tee and rubber band pants, I always thought I was special and cool. It's been two years since I came to Korea, and it's still the same. Do not curse foreigners to increase your self-esteem, but respect diversity. If you do it once in your life, it will help you to increase your self-esteem. Respect others, but eventually you will love yourself."

I just felt kind of nice seeing this development so wanted to share it with you all too :pepelove1::pepelove1:

I've said it some time in different thread, Koreas problem is that because of North Korea they can't travel 'through land' like for example people do in Europe, or even within UK where they can go from Scotland to Wales through England and everything already starts to be different.

They are 'stuck' with their idea of Korea being a superior country, and Korean beauty standards being the best ones...

    well nope, they ain't...

  • Yeah tbh its so weird but I guess its just how it is there...

But I am happy that there are people who are able to open up and gain confidence in themselves even if they don't match the popular stereotypes...

Yeah but it seems that for this person the travel experience made it possible to happen

  • Learning about Korean strict beauty standards was a very interesting experience because it's so different to where I'm from. At first I thought people were joking about how far people will go to make sure they fit into the standard but then I kept hearing about it more from different people.

I hope things get better for them.

  • I can only comment on what I've seen since I'm an Australian...besides the important stuff like work and interviews and things like that...

Aussie's are naturally a laid back country...you can see people in PJs at shops...people at uni were coming in vrious forms of clothing from tracksuit pants all the way to suits...no one gives a shit...

the only thing is Australia is a very multicultural country - there are all sorts of people around you with vastly different looks and cultures and the good thing is while some of us still enjoy our own culture we are at the end of the day Aussie
