South Korea... highest number of new corona cases since december fvxk...

  • Damn... 1212 new cases

It's highest number since december 2020...

We can forget about concerts with fans... Fvxk... And they are still low and slow with those vaccines, seriously...

  • For vaccines, probably it will need to wait and see around September when their vaccine drive could start catching up to the 70% target promised around November. 1.2K isn't great, but compared to lot of Euro countries after spikes from Euro 2020/21.

SK isn't alone in this. This is everywhere. Even some states in USA are suffering for occasional spikes too. 1.2K is similar to just what Los Angeles and a couple of other cities together for a tenth of the total population compared to SK and this is in an area where about 3 in 5 are partially or fully vaccinated according to June stats.

Those occasional spikes will keep occurring. This is endemic everywhere. Nowhere is at 70% fully vaccinated. There are only a handful countries that are close to this if you count partially vaccinated. SK jumped to 30% "pretty fast" for single digit (counting those who got at least 1). Ideally the entire world would need to be fully 90% to get back to fully "normal".

I know you may want concerts and fan signs to be open soon, but that's the least of the worries right now.

  • I also live in Sydney and yes the vaccine rollout is suboptimal, but we can't really compare Australia's "spike" of ~40 cases per day to SK's >1200 (or the rest of the world)? Australian cities are doing lockdowns to aim zero community transmission, which other countries can't even dream of - my European friends were incredulous about Brisbane and Perth going into lockdown when their rates were 2-3 cases per day (not saying I disagree with this approach).

The downside is that because we have never experienced the full force of the pandemic, a large portion of the population isn't taking it seriously - people are still having their house gatherings despite lockdown, some who qualify for vaccines are not getting them (the negative messaging around AZ here hasn't helped obviously, but it's not just for AZ - there are young people who qualify for pfizer as phase 1a or 1b declining vaccines), and those who do want to be vaccinated either don't qualify yet or are facing long waiting times :/

  • No big suprise contries that had it "easy" before (Asian contries) would get it worse soner or later. Sydney also having problems now. I would say the Australians are doing a big unrelastic tactics aiming for total lockdowns and zero cases. Ant some point the population will rebel...... Still, it's a walk in the park in SK compared to what many European contries have had even if it much better tody but it can easly blow up much worse. I guess acctivies for kpop-groups will be put on hold for some time.
