Changed the title of the thread from “Would kpop be popular if it wasn't fantasy driven” to “Would kpop be popular if it wasn't fantasy driven?”. -
nope of course not the mere term idol refers to someone that is to be worshipped
they're not know as kpop artists so one of the key differences between artists and idols is that the fantasy of the idol being yours or at least the gf/bf image.
I mean take AKB48 - those idols are literally idols you can meet.
-
IMO i think it would be popular
-
probably not. a lot of people seem to play into the whole i have a chance with my bias thing
-
Never regarded Kpop as fantasy driven though
-
Idols just so happen to sing and dance. Music is just their platform to sell their fantasy.
-
It would be popular but not to the extent that it is today. At least IMO.

Obviously not, the music is secondary and irrelevant, it's about the fantasy being sold, otherwise why would certain types of people gravitate to kpop I always see a type looking for that bought relationship.
It's why kpop fans can never discuss music in the way actual artists fanbase do with criticism, without someone being threatened of doxxing.
Without fansigns, fanservice, fansites talking pictures to fangirl over, saying you're not dating, Vlives, saying you're your fans boyfriend or girlfriend and never calling out fans in the wrong, being albums for pc solely- all based on fulfilling a fantasy closer kpop would seize to exist.
